morgan,

I think, as Iain has already said in this thread (somewhere?) that the wires come up infront of the vent, where it meets the dash and the pod will 'lip' over the bump at the back of the dash, so it will hide the cables & will not get in the way of the vent either!

I've seen the mock-up IRL and it looks good (specially if 60mm's are used!) and hopefully Iain and the manufacturer can come up with a nice pod !

Next is to replicate the tweeter pods that are in the legacy! (that dont fit impreza's ! :( )

what'da rekon Iain??? :D

Steve

Dyney 06 August 2002 11:52 AM

Thanks Steve,
Yes the pod will hide all the wires.

Legacy tweeters!!! Not seen those!! Got any pics?:D

ScoobyDuck 06 August 2002 02:26 PM

no mate... but had one when car went in for service last time (yuk!).
they go in place of the small triangular bit at the front of the window. but these are bigger on the legacy. then come out in sort of rounded triangle with grill on the inner facing sides (obviously! :) )

they just pop in like the triangle bits too... but apparently too big to fit impreza's, but they do look ok, and would keep the look 'factory' if some could be manufactured!
would probably mean butchering a triangle peice and making a fibreglass overshell all molded together with a few mounting points.

I'll see if I can find a picture somewhere out there in the big black viod that is the internet!

Steve

Si,
I have been looking for a pod to fit the dash neatly for 2 years and I haven't found one!!!! That's why I decided to try and make them.
I don't fancy the gaffa tape look myself;)

The base is now shaped to the dash top.
Just need to finish shaping the top:)

Iain

ScoobyDuck 16 August 2002 01:52 PM

Excellent! nice snug fit then !

Still waiting for the gauges :( but they shouldnt be long now (I hope!).
How long after the wood former is made do you think it'll take to get things sorted / produced? I take it it depends on the manufacturers work load when you approach them next !?

What I did I got a unversal pillar pod and mocal dials ( boost and combined temp and pressure )which I took apart to paint orange to have the same colour as dash needles also installed green bulbs.

My friend installed his gauges in middle but going to change to pillar pod as you have to twist your head too much, I found it easier as you look down you see all gauges , just an idea.

ScoobyDuck 05 September 2002 05:39 PM

BTTT for Iain ... coz I know he just wants to drive 500 miles to get them made up !! :)

will come with yah if you need a bit of company / support.

oh... and the DEFI's might even be here soon too .. so another reason for BTTT !

Steve :D

naughty 06 September 2002 07:11 PM

ScoobyDuck 07 September 2002 12:51 PM

not yet ! :(

it's at the former stage at the mo.. just needs someone to convert it into a finished artical / prototype .. then off we go !
(well - off Iain goes! :D )

Steve

Dyney 15 September 2002 03:27 PM

I'm a bit busy at the moment! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/rolleyes.gif

I will get this finished, I'm determinded to do it/smilie/mad.gif[/img]:)

tweenierob 16 September 2002 01:52 PM

dont mean to piss on anyones bonfire here but my local motorsport shop stocks dash top enclosed 3 pod holders, however they are only for 52mm gauges..
They are exactly the same as the later model ones buy have a flat base so that they can be mounted on top of the dash, i am going to buy one on friday... only £21 plus VAT..
Trying to decide what gauges to add to my boost gauge???
the guy recommended a water temp and oil pressure...
What would you suggest as far as gauges go?????

Rob

Dyney 16 September 2002 03:55 PM

Ahhh! but then you have the wires trailing over the dash or you have to cut a hole in the top of it to pass the wire through.

Mine will be fitted to the shape of the dash and will hide all the wires and pipes!!:D

Gauges. I'd go for Oil pressure, Oil temp and Egt or boost if you don't already have it.

Iain.

ScoobyDuck 16 September 2002 05:50 PM

Exactly Iain ! and I want 60's !! :D

but could you post a piccy if you do get one tweenierob !
just so we can see what the differences are ..

cheers
Steve

Change of plan :o
excuse the comment, didnt read the thread properly, you would definately need to make a hole in the dash for the wires or have wires showing..
After looking into this a bit more now i am going to go for pillar pods, i'm not too keen on the selection of 52mm gauges..
Its got to be HKS gauges...
So, does anyone kn.... new thread time..
Cheers people

right - Iain, shall we have a go at this ourselves?
I'm thinking 'just fibreglass the block & see how the mould looks'.(mayb modify it some -- front lip etc) then make one for real ?

my DEFI's are getting lonely without a pod! :( & I dont have as many toys 2 play with :(

Steve

Dyney 24 October 2002 02:34 PM

Mate I've changed tack on this and am hopefully getting something on Sat to make things alot easier!!!!

The problem is getting all the peaks to look the same:eek:
well let you all know the results.
Iain.

ScoobyDuck 24 October 2002 03:49 PM

cool ! ok mate .. didnt know if that was a go-er or not, but obviously now you've got a free weekend (from you know who!:D) you can do some other things !

let me know how/what it works out like, as Im sure other people are watching this thread too
