Best gearbox upgrade for my 320bhp UK 2000?
Ok, so the engines finished, just had it mapped and she's running about 320bhp.
Going up the cogs from 1st through to 4th she pulls like a f***ing train, could'nt be happier, but as soon as you get into 5th??? well, i wish i hadnt wasted the fuel!! 5th gear is so long in these boxes it ruins the whole thing. so, my question is, what gearbox can i fit straight on that will make a real difference? |
Could be wrong here, but isn't it the power of the turbo/engine which would improve your 5th gear speed?
|
short ratio boxes are massive amounts of fun... acceleration is unreal, will feel very nice at 320bhp. anything from a classic RA.
|
A compromise would be a JDM TY754 ver 5/6 sti box, would give great acceleration and still driveable on a cruise
|
V2 Sti Ra box gets my vote. shortest box of them all. gutted to be going 6 speed.
Banny since when did you compromise mate ;) |

Get a 6 speed :norty: |

My classic RA Box was great im running 320bhp as well... Turbo always spooling nicely through the gears.. fantastic... nailed you back in the seat. Top end drove me potty though... 70 Mph at 4000rpm... When first gear synchro failed fitted a TY752 STI box with longer ratios ... still fun and better on motorway... Not as much fun as the RA box though. Now got a 6 speed box.. Same ratios as the RA but with the long sixth for the cruise..

Light weight fly wheel may help.

Having recently done 4498 kms in a week around Europe in an RA I would have loved the long 5th gear. But as an RA is built to sprint, not cruise and only weights 1190kgs, that's the way it is.
:thumb: Is this a straight swap over with no messing around?:wonder: |

Best option is to get a gearbox made up, then you can choose which ratios you want, but is expensive... |
