VED Changes - anyone knew this?
We probably all know that there's no tax discs or need to display them anymore.
But did you know that as from 1st October, when the new Car Tax rules came in, the seller/previous owner will get an automatic refund of VED when the V5 is sorted? (It takes about 6 weeks according to the website). So, when you buy a car don't accept that the tax will be transferred with it - it won't. |
Don't forget to mention that the new buyer has to pay from the 1st of the month! Why they can't do a rolling 6/12 months from the date of transfer is sooo wrong. I could understand when they've printed the discs in advance with the end of the month on, but now it's all electronic it's a cost saving for them and a stealth tax on both the buyer and seller!

Totally agree.
Every car sold/transferred etc. now gains the Government an extra month's tax. Unless of course the seller SORNs the vehicle. Wonder if someone's thought of that ? |
When you tax the vehicle it asks if you are the new keeper, as long as you have the V5 reference number you can tax it. :)

How can they refund me ? They dont have my bank details ,, so it wont be automatic at least for the ones that have paper disks bought for with cash the old fashioned way

Hmm, if only there was only some way of sending a cheque in the post to the *previous* registered keeper?
Edit - while im asking silly questions ,,, does anyone know if they have changed the amount of refund on unused tax ? Ie it wasnt very good before but you would hope they have improved the percentage of refund for this new system ( sorry havent read up on all the blurb) |
Now, you may wake up.
