I use Smoothrite 'Gold' for the caliper and 'Black' for the bracket. IMHO painting the bracket other then 'Black' looks too much.

It pretty tough this stuff and is used by numerouse Concours guys in the RS Owners Club, as it was on my Cosworth where I done it first.

if the weathers good tomorrow, will paint the calipers.

need to know how to prepare these - just clean with brake clear? or should I sand down?

any help will be great!

Spray with brake cleaner then use a wire brush to get any crap off.If you're confident you won't get any paint on the disc, then paint the caliper(or all over your drive) while it's still on the car as it makes the job much easier-no need to bleed the brakes.

I have done loads of calipers...in fact just done them today on my
new scoob. I always wire brush the dust and rust and then clean of with brake cleaner, then paint with Smooth Hammerite using a small artists tpe brush. You dont need primer with hammerite and its reasonably heat resistant.

In fact - preparation is *the* most important part of the job ! - if you dont prepare them then expect flaking paint in 6 months time !
