Rear brake disc stuck?
 

Currently trying to remove the drivers side rear disc from my 06 STi (brembos) but something seems to be holding it on? :wonder:

I've followed the service manual and tried to use two bolts in the holes but they bent and snapped.. great.

I see that also it states to adjust the 'adjusting screw' but I have no idea where this is? I think it's to do with the hand brake.
The passengers side rear came off fine with using the two bolts. Any input will be highly appreciated!!

Yes remove the rubber gromit fron the backplate. De adjust brake shoes and remove disc

Make sure the handbrake is off and hit disc with mallet.

The handbrake adjuster goes different ways for both sides, so do the opposite to what you did on the other side.

If the disk will rotate I would pull it towards you while rotating it and tapping with hammer. worked for me on drum brakes for years. Same principle.

As above , pull out rubber from bottom of back plate & turn adjuster ( give it a spray to help ) this will undo your brake shoes enough to remove disk

Cheers guys, this was the issue. Also a big thank you to Ian at Godspeed for his advice and answering the phone on a Saturday! Will have to get the hand brake adjusted properly now, moving that adjuster round is a right pain !!! Any hints or tips to doing so?


Now I'm trying to do my front brakes. On the passenger side I've got as far as removing the pads, the lower caliper bolt came off fine but the upper bolt is giving me problems. It was tough to get loose and then it got a bit easier and then hard again, I've put a dab of oil on the thread and re tightened it in the hope it penetrates. But it feels like there is more and more resistance when I undo it.. Is this a cross threaded bolt? :confused: If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful :D

As above...the over-hyped Brembos, knowing that their alloy calipers will corrode with steel bolts, DIDN'T fit stainless inserts etc. German Engineering? Cr@p more like.

Helicoil repair it will almost certainly be.

Yes , firstly order new bolts for all four corners
If it's gone tight it will 70% snap at the head , keep spraying penetrating oil & tightening back in , then out , then in etc etc .. You may win , but it's doubtfull . As stated they are the b$tard everyone says .. Good luck

Not greatly helpful to the thread I know but wanted to point out Brembo are Italian and not German. Common misconception for some reason, probably explains why they didn't fit steel inserts lol.

But hope you have had luck sorting the brakes.

Haha thanks Fuzzbom. I've bought some Plus Gas in the hope that will penetrate the bolts and make easy of it. Wish me luck for tomorrow!
