My First Subaru

Hi everyone, I just bought my first ever subaru and thought I would share with you guys. Being a bit of VW nut I usuallystick to volkswagen but when this impreza came up for sale I couldn't resist.

The car was untaxed, the brake pads were down to the backing plate, it had a broken windscreen, a bit of a rust hole on the rear arch as well as 4 bold tyres.

The owner originally wanted £500 for this car but after some time making him sweat I only paid £300.

PLease be aware this car looks hideous but it wont stay like this for long.

Hideous indeed :lol1:

What VW did you come from? I ran an R32 for a while and loved it.

Lot of work needed here but if you're prepared to put a lot more than the £300 you paid for it you could make a good car out of this. One thing to bear in mind is that it is probably worth a lot more in spares if you decide to call it quits and break the car. Or transfer any bits over to something in better condition.

As far as I'm aware the engines on classics don't do too well with cone intakes but it would be good to ensure that it has been mapped as a lot of cars that look like this have loads of bits bolted on without any appreciation for the important details.

Tyres are very important on an Impreza, don't scrimp and put ditch finders on.

Brakes, you could do a lot worse than getting in touch with Godspeed he is quite popular on here.

Do you have a list of mods that have been performed on the car?

Actually, thinking about it I'm not sure it's worth mapping a NA car. But it is worth seeing what's gone on underneath the hood.

Thanks for the insight mate, I originally purchased the car with the intention of flipping it for a profit but since then my wife has taking a liking to the car and has claimed it for herself.

I've just had the windscreen replaced and have bought all new pagid discs and pads as well as a service kit for the engine. I've acquired a set of standard wheels with tyres so will be looking to sell the gold alloys.

As far as VW's go, I have a Corrado Vr6 and A Golf V6 4motion.

That Golf 4 motion is a wonderfully overengineered machine, lot of metal for the money too.

My uncle had a VR6 Storm model, what a motor.

I think i'm right in saying you have a set of Dare st alloys there, are you going for the standard look?

Best none turbo i've seen on here was a euro look, looked amazing.

WTF? Surprised this thread hasn't had more abuse? Those pink stickers are absolutely the worst thing I've seen. Who in their right mind would put a pink subaru sticker kit on a non-turbo?

Hopefully you've pulled them off and made the car look a bit more respectable.

jaygsi 05 October 2014 05:19 PM

Why would you give him abuse, read his first post there coming off. Thats how he bought it.

They look same as mine just mine in a different colour and mine are Dare st's

I must be getting old....I was wondering what the F is wrong with the intercooler.

Then realised its a Sport......

Can't knock sub £500 cars. We've just bought a one owner MK4 Golf for £200....been thrashing the nuts off for the past week......leaving a smoke trail in its wake (slight oil burning issue). Its got good compression and goes well for a 1.4, so may just puts some thick stuff in a see how it goes before stripping the head off (already replaced the oil separator before the owner decided to get rid of it).
