Somehow I have managed to miss this thread.
Great read and fantastic skills/problem solving by thinking 'outside the box' (pun absolutely intended) :D
Well done Boosted :notworthy

Thanks! I thoroughly enjoyed the build and driving the car with the box.

What was the reason for doing it with audi rear diff, not the impreza one?

Direction of rotation is wrong

LOL. As reasons go, that's a very good one! :)

I'm imagining a huge tug of war involving one car :)

Correct!

Two years later and about 20,000 miles this conversion is still going strong

piehole1983 07 January 2017 12:11 PM

Excellent!! How much torque are you sticking through it now? No more drive shaft trouble?

in the region of 400ftlb (forged 2.5 on meth) made a set of decent shafts and actually twisted them a full turn! So now I've widened the track and I am using oe WRX shafts with modified inner cv's, much simpler!

thanks! I have recently changed the gearbox over to an allroad 2.7 biturbo one, going from a potential 236mph sixth (pretty unusable) to a more acceptable 150mph sixth makes the car make more drivable. Top gear is the same as a U.K. Sti, but the 1-6 gears are much more evenly spaced.

Also knocked up a new flywheel to take an Oe RS4 organic clutch

Not read the entire thread, but you have some great skills and patience :)

I did ponder the idea of the Audi tiptronic box, auto for pootling around and sequential gear change when you want to take control, but after reading this I think that would be a nightmare to do :) not sure how strong the tiptronic box would be?

It's just a ZF autobox. Heavy AF.

Carpet and ecu is lifted just to make sure it didn't get damaged when creating a little extra room where the gear linkage goes into the box (you can see the red rubber boot in one of the pics above)
