You could try a max9924 for the VR sensor

Is it a VR sensor though? The audi box has a two wire VR on it, however the subaru sensor seems to be three wire, probably a hall? You seem to know more about it than me though so I could be wrong? Cheers

boosted 05 October 2014 06:59 PM

My biggest problem is I'm doing all this on my back with the car on axle stands

Rick2014 05 October 2014 07:07 PM

I'm still here lurking, very envious of your skill and attention to detail, and obviously having the minerals to take something like this on ad not go with the norm.
I noticed everything is being done on axle stands, that's an achievement in itself , I bloody hate using them when working on the underside of the car.

Good luck and hope everything works out for you.

piehole1983 05 October 2014 10:38 PM

I'm just spectating with great interest. I have nothing useful to say lol

Thanks for all the possetive input guys, the front shafts are being welded and heat treated today, hopefully paint them, build up the CV's and fit them tonight.
Waiting on some steel tube comming for the rear shafts, then I can get these welded and fitted. Looking like I will have my car back on the road by next weekend

Welds look good. How are you going to ensure or check they are straight?

banny sti 07 October 2014 08:51 AM

If the ratios are long enough, you could get some interest from the drag racing crew ;)

Tacked, checked with a dial clock on v blocks, small run made, checked again. Then welded. I've checked them now they are cool and are within a few thou. Factory shafts aren't that good.
I can't take credit for the welding, I got the welder at work to TIG them, pre and post heat treatment too.

1st is 3.5:1
2nd is 1.89:1
3rd is 1.23:1
4th is .87:1
5th is .667:1
6th is .56:1
All with a 4.11:1 final drive. The DQT box I have is the tallest ratios available. 1st and 2nd are the same on all O1E boxes.
The RS4 box is the same but with shorter 3-6th gears
