Toyosport decat? Any Good?
I am looking to get some bits together to start extracting some extra power out of my 2004 WRX 5 door wagon. Many boys saying the usual decat + fuel pump + filter then map it strategy. I have seen a toyosport decat on ebay
. Its the "frontpipe". Is this an easy install on the driveway or should I just take it to a garage with a lift? I have a Prodrive cat back system on now which sounds nice. Does anyone know if toyosports do a standard decat or if you can recommend a better route than I am taking here? Am a bit confused with the decat stuff tbh. Any other blobeye wagon owners have decats? Also, where is best to get my car mapped in south wales? Thanks guys. |

Personally I wouldn't fit anything from ToyoSport,we are tried only once their exhaust and fitting has been horrible,exhaust didn't line up at all and there are been few other issues Yours current Prodrive catback should be OK for 330bhp and if you are bit concern about the if this exhaust will be enough for yours needs,then I would have look on 2.5" downpipe Better route I would probably look for better exhaust and not ToyoSport exhaust or their headers,please stay away from them Thanks,Jura |

Hi there You are running too Prodrive sport cat or not? If yes then you should be OK and I would expect somewhere from 270-280bhp on yours If you are not running Prodrive sport cat then I would expect something around 250-270bhp Fuel pump upgrade,yes its worth it as not sure how old is yours pump and when has been last time replaced,due this I would replace But really if its budget please have look over here in For sale section for better exhaust or at least you will need decatted downpipe and centre pipe,Prodrive backbox should be OK at this power Decatted exhaust will flow bit better than catted exhaust there Thanks,Jura |

I had the Cobra Sport race cat downpipe fitted and tbh it sits so low that I've had to raise the car's coilover height. :cry: I keep adding mods thus needing map tweaks, if I did it all again on a stock blob I'd lump it all in and get a fuel pump, panel filter, STI pink injectors, TD05/VF35 turbo, colder NGK plugs, decat up-pipe, de-cat centre section, sports cat downpipe, silicone turbo/vac hoses and FMIC or STI TMIC. Not sure about a 3 port boost controller at his stage, very divided opinions. All this should really see you past 280, maybe even past 300 with some headers and exhaust wrapping or some cheeky parasitics removals. Probably all done for less than 1500 mapped if you stumble on fairly priced parts/used parts. Perhaps slightly more if you choose VF35 and Ecutek. |

But by looks of it, it is straight through from the downpipe all the way to back box. Could this be right? Will this help me get more bhp after mapping?
If you have straight through exhaust then you should be OK and I would expect with yours mods around 260-270bhp,above that figure is possible and i've seen few surprising figures on standard WRX with basic mods Thanks,Jura |

A bolt snapped in the turbo and had to be drilled out. Tuner said it was very common. My stepdad, an ex-mechanic now train driver, said they shouldn't have transferred the extra cost onto me as they snapped it, but as some of you know I get sick of arguing with Subaru/Specialist tuners, I'm at their mercy.

check if you have an uppipe cat in place or not, if you still have the uppipe cat then it should be removed as soon as possible.
After that it's the fuel pump and the sports cat (look on here or on ebay for a PPP cat/downpipe) that will keep you MOT friendly. Stick a nice panel filter in and get it mapped. When you grow weary and tired of this power then look for STI pink injectors and a TD05(16g) or a VF turbo and take it up a notch. If your not mapping the car yourself then find a tuning company you can talk to openly and honestly, they will advise you the best order in which to do things and how they can adjust the map for you as you add the bits on. |
How viable is smashing the cat out of the standard WRX up-pipe as aftermarket ones are notorious for leaking?

Just for anyone wondering about Cobra Sport Downpipes, it fits well enough but the design leaves the initial bottom of the downpipe extremely close to the floor. Luckily I have coilovers.
