Air compressors for home garage use.

How does this look

Will it be man enough to run a air wratchet? And anything else the home mechanic could throw at it?

Or, would could anyone else recommend instead please.

not sure the scfm figure will deliver enough to drive an air ratchet - I assume you mean something that could do up and undo wheel bolts?

Try and get a 3hp twin cylinder, more free air delivery that way. I have one and use a small blasting cabinet with it. Works well!

Wheel bolts, suspension nuts and bolts etc.

I've got a Clarke SE16C150 in my workshop, my advice is get the biggest you have space for and can afford, ideally you want around 3HP with 14CFM for air driven tools.

Space isn't so much of an issue as it's going to be going undere a bench (when I build it) I've kind of set a budget of £150 out.

Just checked yours, that's a little over budget for me. :D

There's plenty of generic 3hp 14cfm compressors on eBay.

Bit more than your budget I know but would be worth the extra. I got an almost new one on gumtree with a shed load of tools and extra air lines for £150. Still has 30 months warranty too :)

These are good compresors Cookstar, I spent alot of time doing my homework before buying, I know a bloke who has had his for ten years and uses it daily without it ever having had a problem.

If you can stretch the money you know know what to go for.

Also if your using a compressor for air tools you'll want one with a decent sized air receiver, around 150 liter minimum or the compressor will constantly be running.

cookstar 15 September 2014 09:25 PM

Budgets are there to be pushed I guess. :)

I can't copy and paste link as I'm now on my work P.C, but I quite like the look of ebay item number 371089074751

Seems to have good spec, and only slighty more than I wanted to pay.

I would be looking for a bigger Air receiver TBH.

I bought a cheap one from lidl for about £80 similar to the one in your first link, it does work but if your doing something prolonged like painting or sand blasting it's running constantly and your always playing catch up with it waiting for it to hit 6bar min to be able to use it with any decent amount of force.

I'd sugest you spend a bit extra and get something that is a bit more up to the job with a decent sized reservoir.:thumb:

i have this same compressor and it has been faultless after trying to buy one from machine mart i went for this and glad i did it was less than i would have paid at machine mart with the vat free voucher, i have used it for everything from impact wrenchs, belt sanders brake bleeders, die grinders, spraying, if i were to buy another i would get one with a larger tank and belt drive just so that its a tad quieter, as for impact wrench buy the best you can afford if you want to undo proper bolts the cheap impact wrench's can only just manage wheel bolts.
