You obviously dont know your Rovers/MG's....

Wont be having trouble with headgaskets on anything MG Rover with a V6 in it.

It was the 1.0-1.8 K series 4 cylinders that had issues, and when fixed with the correct studs and locating dowels it wont be an issue again.....

Also wrong, Rover have never had problems with any of the variants of the V6 engines.... Brilliant engines the rover 2.5s!

Just the K series had the issues mate :)

Would also point out it is the same K series as fitted in the Lotus Elise models if anyone was wondering :P

Early hand-finished units were affected by inconsistent production tolerances (1996-1998). This caused the height of the cylinder liners to vary, which risked over-compression or under-compression of the head gaskets. The production facility was re-engineered prior to launching the Rover 75 (1998-2005). Those changes resolved all known issues and the KV6 has a positive reputation for reliability

this was taken from Wikipedia which among others included the Rover 800 v6

wernt the k series used in the rover 200/400 ? now they were dog turd lol

anyhow...now wrong with the engine in the car im selling :)

K series was used in everything mate, Metro, 200, 400, ZR, ZS, F, TF, ZT Supercharged, Elise, etc, and to be honest they are a fecking brilliant engine, nothing could have competed at the time for output per capacity of the engine, its just a shame the build quality let them down, but to be honest once the dowels are replaced they are really quite reliable :)

Also simple to work on, but anywho I divulge, the MG 2.5 V6 is one of the best engines built in a long time, no problems with these! get it bought its a very nice car and with those miles not to be sniffed at for that price!

I have read various reports of failures on the 2.5 engines but admit they are lesser an issue than the k series engines

Where are you based matey?

Very interested

If you weren't so far away id be interested.do you ever travel south?

scoobyman1984 19 September 2014 06:59 PM

Im still interested in this and doing all i can to sort the money for it on top of the boiler issue.

Has the cambelt been done? As this is quite a big job and im nervous of shelling out with the possibility of that needing to be done especially with the finances at the minute

not really mate no, its a bargain at that price so it wouldn't be worth our while shelling out on travel costs too. sorry

powerwrx 21 September 2014 12:41 PM

ok, we (my dad) has seen a smaller car which he likes therefor he will let this car go for £1000 no less, bargain in my eyes.

I had big ends go on 2 KV6's in my MGZS 180, the cause for both was excessive oil consumption, both replaced under warranty, the third was fine :)

PS If I had a grand, this would be mine, glwts.

powerwrx 29 September 2014 03:00 PM

car still for sale, cambelt hasn't been changed simply due to the millage and the car being driven sensibly, ok its probably due in terms of the cars age but a family mechanic has looked the car over, checked all belts and said they look fine.. with my dad looking at selling it and for a low price it wouldn't be worth us/him getting it changed just to help a sale
