Juddering and shaking.
Quick question, driving on a motorway this morning and upon exiting the motorway I started to brake and noticed my steering wheel was shaking and juddering quite a bit, am I right in saying it's either my brake discs that are warpped or the balancing is out on my front wheels or am I totally wrong and it's something else? Thanks in advance.

could be either but I'd say brakes as it happened on hitting pedal

Brakes at a guess

Time for a new set of discs and pads fella. :thumb:

They shouldn't go suddenly, just like that. I'd have thought you'd have noticed slight vibration increasing with use.
I'd take it somewhere (or inspect it yourself if you're into that side of motoring) asap, without giving it any beans. |

It happed to mine, there was a crack in the disc

ABS?.

Or a seized piston. This causes the pads not to retract away from the disc, boiling the brake fluid and hence vibration through the pedal and steering wheel. :thumb:
Get the car up in the air and check that the wheels move freely. |

I don't think he is hitting the brakes full on. |

as usual wrong again, discs can go in one hit, if he has overheated them and warped them in one enthusiastic drive.
vibration could be a result of warped discs And of course it isn't the poster's life (and that of any passengers) at risk. "They shouldn't go suddenly......" If they have then there's been some sort of event that warrants immediate investigation. Would you want complete brake failure next time you applied them ?????????????? Life isn't worth an 'educated guess', let alone someone saying something as irrelevant as "wrong again". I assume that it isn't usual for anyone (and everyone) to have sudden braking issues - or do all Subarus suffer sudden and unexpected brake 'eccentricities' ? OK, people have different opinions, but to support the comment that "discs can go in one hit" by saying "he has overheated them and warped them in one enthusiastic drive" is quite frankly absurd (even ignoring the clear antagonism there is between me and him).
Op - get it checked, and let's hope it is just something that a few quid will sort out so you can continue driving (well stopping) safely. It's a lot cheaper than funeral costs. No apologies for saying it like that. It is reality, however grim. :thumb: |
