changing just the 1 strut.
Yo people, ive came to the conclusion that its the rear right strut that is clunking, is it possible to just replace this one to save money or do both sides need doing together?

Hi slimwiltaz
I have the same problem so am interested in the replies you get. What Scooby have you got and where are you thinking of buying the strut(s) from? Cheers. |
Yo, tbh i havnt really looked yet just thought id get some info on it first, trying to think of a cheap fix. I have a 2003 bugeye wrx

I've read so many forums on so many sites with so much advice I don't know what to do. I think I'd rather turn the stereo up louder than fork out a shed load of dosh and see the clunking return in a couple of years. Will follow your thread with interest.

I only got the car a couple of weeks ago, its annoying me already. Was pricing up coilovers on ebay but a budget set will probs give me problems

I had this problem on my old hawkeye. I just took them apart and cleaned out all the contaminated wax like grease and put in a lithium type and re assembled. Did over 10k without any noise coming back.
Also had a second click noise when reversing and moving away that was the rear drive shaft nut. That was solved by fitting a new castellated nut and making sure it's torqued up correctly. Best make sure it's not this before doing shocks. |
Can this only be done with the sti struts as i have the wrx? IM pretty certain its the strut, reason being ive jacked the car up and when pushing the wheel up as if it was going over a bump i can hear the clunk
|
Not sure on the wrx. Have a look on the bottom of the strut to see if there's a bolt. If so they can be taken apart.

Think im just gonna live with it untill i get sum coilys after my remap, hopefully that sorts it

Only just seen this thread.
Check this video out My cousin just did this to his WRX and it's cured the clunking. |
