doesn't look much wrong with it, soon could be tidy with some tlc, least it has original alloys

Car looks ok, and had a 2 engine rebuild in its life, but its the 180km on the clock that puts people off.
Shame really as it would make a great everyday car if you was not bothered about the mileage and maybe it has a bit to many miles to keep as a mint collectors car,but as MattyB1983 said if it sold for 15k would be a cheap car!!!

The 22B just used a VF series turbo, I think from memory it was the 23.

He's justifying it by saying that although the clock is in mph the car certainly doesn't have the look and feel of a 180K miles car.
Only the second owner (who, note, spends a lot of time out of the country) and they can't say definitely whether it's miles or not.

Right the miles are due to his wife driving it every day a car company is selling it on behalf of the owner.

Absolutely no disrespect I don't know the seller etc. either but I'm not giving myself reasons for them to sell. If I'm a prospective buyer they need to give me reasons not to walk away.

Also, it was used daily for 'the most part of its early life'.

To me that implies that the car has lain idle for a few years (owner's rarely in the country remember).

2 rebuilds, last 500 ago, so reasonable to assume 1st rebuild was at 90K?

Apparently the owner believes 'performance cars are designed to be driven' (despite mainly motorway miles apparently) and the implication is that they have - is that a reason for 1 or both of the rebuilds?

And how come the windscreen trim is missing? - screen hasn't come out has it?

There's a horrible scenario that covers an engine rebuild and replacement screen (trim damaged) and replacement downpipe. However, that would also involve other issues that aren't mentioned in the ad, so perhaps I am far too cautious.

I hope it has been in the hands of a true lover and will be passed to another, but please Mr Advertiser give us every reason to believe that.

I applied the same test when buying my current car (as indeed I do with every car I look at). Remarkably I couldn't find a single question to ask of the seller (apart from checking that what was in the ad was correct, in a diplomatic way).
That's how to sell.

As a 22B owner I personally think the ad is extremely poor. It's a half assed attempt at it. I agree with LWC, if you're selling a car, think from the buyers perspective.

Only an enthusiast will pay £16-£18k for it and then more than likely spend a fair bit tidying it up.

When I bought mine I knew its history, the seller advertised it documenting it's complete life history and I took a punt. I knew it needed a few quid spent on it but now it's done I think I have a well specced and clean 22B.

I know the UK spec 22B would be worth more as it will be a UK registered car but why should it make much difference if you was to get a clean import version? (Still a rare car)

Only 12 UK cars I think so rarity .

There weren't many differences in the grand scheme of things. The UK 22B had a longer final drive, de-restricted speed limit, crystal headlights with height adjustment, driving lamps instead of covers, UK spec rear lights, Thatcham cat1 alarm, better stereo and special mats. There was extra anti corrosion treatment. Type UK and Prodrive badging too.

Last time i checked i sold my uk was 9 left as stated and 188 jap ones redg.

Wow quite a big difference but still a very rare breed in either form. Did they make any for the euro or usa market?

Heres a bit from wikipedia. If you believe the article it looks like at least 50 22b's were imported...

In 1998, Subaru of Japan produced a widebody, coupe WRX STI called the "22B STI" produced between March and August 1998. The 22B was used to commemorate both Subaru's 40th anniversary as well as the third consecutive manufacturer's title for Subaru in the FIA World Rally Championship. On the release of the sales, all 400 Japanese units sold out from 30 minutes to 48 hours, depending on the report.[6] Another 24 were produced for export markets—16 for the UK, along with another 5 for Australia, and 3 prototypes. The 16 cars imported to the UK were modified by Prodrive, with longer gear ratios, and UK specification lights. Because 50 22Bs had already been imported privately into the UK, Subaru had to wait until 1999 to register the 16 officially imported cars under the VCA's Single Vehicle Approval scheme.

Aside from the 16 official UK cars, three numbered 000 were made for Colin Mcrae, Nicky Grist and David Lapworth. There was one car issued to the US No 13 (:D) which was a demonstrator for Subaru USA.
