Gaddafi
Anyone watch that programme on Gaddafi last night?
Obviously I knew that Gaddafi was an evil b,astard but even if half the programme was true the extent of his brutality was staggering. Towards the end his madness overtook him and he lost all his Arab and African friends apart from Idi Amin who had murdered around half a million Ugandans, And as his regime was collapsing a smiling Tony Blair turned up and gave Gaddafi the final chance to recover some credibility even though it cost him dearly. Coincidentally BP signed a billion pound deal the next day. Well I never. But it's only fair to point out that Blair did persuade Gaddafi to give up his nuclear plans and stop the Cemtex supply to the IRA. All very frightening really and tragic that Libya hasn't grasped the nettle now that the Gaddafi regime has gone. dl |
I find the timing of that programme and its leaning somewhat suspect to be frank!

The world Mainstream media machine working at its finest.
Gaddafi gave his people a true democracy, the libyan people were directly involved in every decision, a true democracy. In contrast, us the people in Western nations have almost no say in political matters, its our corrupt "representatives" the banks and the politicians who call the shots, not us. Gaddafi was a hero to his people,it's the western mainstream media that portrayed him as a monster. |
Like him or loath him he kept the whole area in check.

Made me chuckle:lol1: |
I worked in Libya during Gaddafi's era and found the average person to be happy-go-lucky with plenty of opportunities to start and run businesses, own cars and generally enjoy a better lifestyle than many people in other Arab countries. As a foreigner I felt a lot less oppressed there than I ever have in Saudi for instance.

Check out the UAE, Yemen, Qatar, Bahrain, in fact most Arab countries before you quote Gaddafi's inadequacies; no sign of democratic rule in any of them. The so-called Arab Spring ended with military rule in Egypt and we all know about Syria. In fact the only truly 'free' country in the Middle East is Israel.
btw I'm not sure which 'quotes' you are referring to |
Yes same one they put on the tv three years ago.
