Judder

whilst accelerating mainly in the higher gears and not every time, when the revs hit about 3700 the knock lights go mental while the car pops and judders quite violently. i have tried different fuel (v power and momentum from different garages. the car can tends to search a little on idle and will sometimes stall

car drives perfect before this happens and after, below these revs

i have booked in with jgm to check the map etc, any ideas what else i should be looking at,

DEATHLYREAPER 04 August 2014 11:39 AM

its an 07 hawk sti fully forged

barnshaw 04 August 2014 12:42 PM

could be MAF related if you are still running one?

DEATHLYREAPER 04 August 2014 12:42 PM

its running mafless simulation on ecutek

DEATHLYREAPER 04 August 2014 01:09 PM

sort of way to describe the judder is what you get from wheel spinning a front wheel drive car

barnshaw 04 August 2014 01:18 PM

sounds like a misfire to me to be honest, had it plugged in to check for any fault codeS?

DEATHLYREAPER 04 August 2014 01:20 PM

i havent but will check it no CEL light at all just knocklink lights of like xmas tree

328isport 05 August 2014 02:58 PM

Only just got this didn't you? Maybe one of the previous owners can shed some light on it, I assume Pauls still around

DEATHLYREAPER 05 August 2014 03:25 PM

yeah only a week ago

New_scooby_04 05 August 2014 04:12 PM

Hi there,

328i just to clarify, I'm not the previous owner; I sold the car on to another chap on here in Feb. I was wondering who had brought it off that guy ..... now I know!

Yes, it's a RACEROM MAF sim map by Bob Rawle so very unlikely to be a problem. It does sound like a dodgy batch of fuel to me, but if you've tried different garages then its unlikely they're all ****e unless there is some kind of contamination in there. BTW the car is mapped for Vpower, although tescos momentum has the same RON I was advised by Bob to stick to Shell. I believe the previous owner changed the plugs recently, might be worth checking the grade of plugs and the gapping?

Any sign of KL activity and you should keep the car off boost until its looked into particularly if its accompanied by pops or juddering, which certainly indicates it's not happy for some reason. Have you checked for fault codes?

Whereabouts are you? I used to have the car serviced by Paul at Xtreme or APi who built it. Both know the car very well. Getting it to a competent garage should be your first priority!

Hope it gets sorted quickly - it's one hell of a car that!! Enjoy it and please look after it for me!!

i have simon jgm looking at it tomorrow so hopefully find the fault, the car has been off the road since so be nice to be able to enjoy it fingers crossed

328isport 05 August 2014 04:39 PM

Hi Paul, yep was aware of that, but knew it was your baby so to speak so you probably know it better than anyone! :-) not stalking you btw, bought some 16" speedlines off you for my classic a while ago so remember your old car from then! hope all is well.

I knew I recognised the user name!! :D I'm good ta, my life is a bit more dull without the Sti in it though!! That was a nice little classic you had. How did the wheels work out for you?

Hope all is well with you.

To the OP do let us know what JGM turns up.

328isport 05 August 2014 08:02 PM

Wheels were good cheers, though sold them on to another member as some Rays TE37's came up which I couldn't refuse, car is up for sale on here now though, not that it's stopped me buying more parts for it mind!! So I guess it'll end up staying.

OP sorry for the thread hijack, fingers crossed jgm finds the fault pretty quickly, will be interesting to hear what it was..

I'd be getting Bob to look at it. He has all the data and can see what is happening and why. Adding in another mapper at this stage is probably not optimum.

Would like to say thank you to simon today a hose had come off causing
Over boost, map all good just need some new plugs and she's all sorted

New_scooby_04 07 August 2014 08:21 AM

Glad to hear it mate. Was it one of the ones off the boost solenoid pipework?

I thought the previous owner just replace the plugs?

Have fun...... and as David said to me: keep it on the grey bit between the green bits at all times! :D

scoobyross 09 August 2014 11:30 AM

Hi mate, hope your well and sorry you had problems with it so soon. :(

I had just paid to have the plugs replaced and i made sure i got the right ones so that is very odd, sorry to hear about the pipe, which one was it a i did mention that it might be worth putting another clamp on that intercooler one?

scoobyross 09 August 2014 11:31 AM

Just checked and the plugs were: ILFR7H if this helps. Gapped to .65 i believe.

scoobyross 09 August 2014 12:08 PM

Paul - You might as well be the previous owner, i barely had time to drive it, did less then 1500 miles i believe! lol!

DEATHLYREAPER 11 August 2014 09:36 AM

it was a boost pipe from the 3 port, and from running rich the plugs are shot. New plugs going in today :-)
