Keeping your Gear Gaiter Up..
1 Attachment(s)
Have changed my gear knob and now have a drooping gear gaiter.. I cut off the plastic part that holds the gear gaiter up from the original gear knob, and thought I could purchase an M12 nut to screw on to the shifter - which would then hold the plastic holder on (then the new gear knob on top) - however the M12 nut doesn't seem to fit - is this an M13 nut anyone?
See picture attached. Has anyone solved this slightly annoying issue before when changing gear knob? |
How about getting some silicone vacuum/fuel hose with an inner diameter the same as the gear stick (or slightly smaller), this should grip the gear stick nicely and hold up the gaiter

Cable tie and electrical tape :)

IIRC, the thread is M12 x 1.25, not the more widely available M12 x 1.5.
|
Thanks alcazar - that would explain why it wouldn't go on. Any idea of where to obtain this mystery nut?
Or is the vacuum hose approach by modrich the way forward? |
|
Thanks again alcazar, that should do the trick.
|
Op, where did you get your knob from?

Made by a company called CDF, ordered via Scoobyworld -

Thanks for the info just need to buy a knob and a couple of nuts as suggested by Alcazar and I will be well away.

Mainly for those hitting this thread looking for info on nuts for keeping the gaiter up.
Just done this with the M12 x 1.25 nut but with a nylon locking thread. The gaiter fits over the nut tight and you don't have to worry about the nut coming undone or locking it against the gear knob. HTH. |
Thanks Zaim - in the end I used the M12 x 1.25 nut plus the existing plastic gaiter holder from the OEM gear knob and it's a good snug fit, and now finally I have gaiter that is standing to attention.
