5x114.3, 17x9 et -10 on a classic?

Hey guys,

found the wheels I want, I have got some 5x100 - 5x114.3 adapters on the way to myself courtesy of a member on here (Top man!)

The wheels I want are 17x9", et+10.

With the adapters it acts as a spacer too (20mm) so it will turn the wheels into ET-10 if I am correct?

I have typed this info into the wheel calculator and it will give me 30mm more on the inside edge of the wheel (Arch side) and 77mm poke out of the arch...

Can anyone see any issues with this? They have never been fitted to a classic before so I want to confirm I am not going to run into any issues!

The tyres going on them are the race compound Nankang NS2R's in 245/40/17, this will all be underneath a set of classic ABW wide arches. I have an arch rolling tool, and if it comes to it I am quite happy to cut the arches back etc.

Im hoping staying with the 17" wheels will combat most rubbing problems under heavy cornering etc!

Thanks

you are correct about the offset measurement, I have no idea how much space ABW arches will give you though. However, 77mm sounds a lot!

Why don't you quickly bolt them on and find out?

Ah, read it as if you already had them

nope unfortunately not, and I really cannot get my head around offsets etc! No matter how much I try i just do not understand it!

You'll never get an arch roller to roll/pull an arch for a 77mm excess wheel/tyre combo. It's a good job you are fitting ABW wide arches as you will certainly need them. :)

If you are running low then you will need to be cuting your original metal arches under the ABW arches to make room for the tyres.

Are you running coilovers too?

Also, be prepared to change wheel bearings more often with this setup. Will pull bearings with that offset.

Yes running tein monoflex jobbies.

Why would the wheel bearings suffer?

BrownPantsRacing 25 July 2014 03:08 PM

The weight of the wheel is that much further out and it puts more force on the bearings. I used to run 25mm spacers on an old car and had to change bearings regularly.

Hmm, thats no big deal I suppose, I have a 2 post ramp in my man cave so the car spends most of it life on there, so there shouldnt be any clearance issues with the turning circle etc? I have no inner arch liners as it is anywayws

Yes, that's the other thing I forgot to mention, could be turning circle issues and will more than likely have to trim front of both front arches at the very least, possible front & rear of front arches!

To be honest, until you fit the wheels you won't know. Just be prepared to do some cutting. Fit wheels, check, cut a bit, check, cut a bit more etc until they fit. Then re-paint arches to stop rust.

Yeah okay, just wondering if anyone has gone with this kind of thing before really! I know i can make it fit, but would like some kind of idea of to what needs to be done to make it fit! :)

Your best bet is ask ABW then. They make the arches and have fitted them loads of times. :thumb:

Anyone else had any experience of something like this? ABW arent responding to my emails
