Awning

Does anyone work in the Awning business.

We have a Hillarys awning which has a bit broken, Hillarys were not very helpful, the bit in question is what the winding handle clips in to

Any help much appreciated

I am not in the awnings business but since no one has replied I suggest the following.

I think I know the part you mean but wouldn't have a clue as to what it is called. Have you been up a ladder and had a good poke around to try and see what has happened and if it looks like the part can be replaced? You may have to take the awning off the wall to have a look.

Then I would phone one the many awning spares people on Google and seek advice. You might get a friendly guy who tells you exactly what you need and even a suggestion as to where you can get one. dl

If the actual cloth needs replacing/ repair ~ I could probably do it
(Sail/cover maker)
I'm in Seaford, just down the road :)
But it sounds mechanical ~ shed loads awning/blind companies out there

Thanks for both the above replies.

The canvas is ok thanks.

The part that needs replacing has completely come of the awning so I know exactly what it is, but no idea what it is call.

It is held on with a metal pin, but as it is made of plastic it has become brittle over the last 13 years and eventually snapped off.

I'll try Google and local caravan firm

Those plastic metal pins always cause problems

Sorry the pin is metal, but the part in question is plastic

I've tried on awning firm who call the part winch winding eye, unfortunately theirs was not a straight swap

This is the part

http://www.johnscross.co.uk/products...winch-eye.html

It slots onto the winch and held in place with a metal pin, the winding handle then clips in.

Unfortunately the above one slots on a winch which has a hexagonal head while my winch has a round head.

Surely Hillarys can supply that or tell you where to get it? dl

You would have thought so, however when I spoke with them they told me the company which used to make the awnings for them went bust in 2008 and their new awnings are a different design.

Looks like I'll have to hope I can adapt another winding eye or, or replace the winch and hope that is a straight swap.
