map check

Hi all,

I've just read on a thread about a map check? Is this something that is common and can be done? I have a bugeye JDM WRX, tiptronic and with it being an import it must have been mapped at least for the fuel difference if nothing else, which got me wondering if it maybe had mods which it was mapped to, and than removed but not remapped to compensate for this as I see a lot of parts for sale due to cars being sold and I'm assuming not everyone would then have their car mapped back to standard

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and also if anyone knows the cost of map checks etc

Thanks in advance

That was me, maybe. Peace of mind is priceless. Map tweaks are often much cheaper than a full remap. Open source remaps circa £350, licensed Ecutek maps circa £550, but to get a tweak cheaply I think that you need to have already have paid your mapper for a full map, or have a very kind, benevolent mapper! If you alter something which concerns fueling, induction, or exhausts on your car, it is wise.

Thanks for the reply, i personally havent made any mods as of yet, just a bit worried if the previous owner did and had it mapped, removed mods and then didnt map back to standard, are there any recommended mappers in or around the derby area?

Sorry, confirmed southerner , but there are some good mobile mappers who will travel; Duncan aka Racedynamix, or Simon aka Jolly Green Monster, or Bob Rawle spring to mind, or you may have a specialist with a rolling road near you. I am sure others will be along to offer advice. I am no expert, but if it had been returned to standard without remapping, I would have thought that you would notice issues, although damage can occur without a lay man noticing. I`m on a 200 mile hot drive to catch some waves in the west country now, with my new map tweak, so looking forward to it!!
