Advantages for Aluminium radiator
I've found my radiator is has a split in it, and was wounding about paying extra for a aluminium radiator.
But wondered is it worth it are there any advantages? |
No point. Nothing wrong with the standard set up.

Well there must be some improvement in some way. n adverts says improves cooling by 30% plus guess its lighter than standard radiator

More than likely it has a larger capacity which actually means it will be heavier.
Some very high powered cars about running standard rads. |

I replaced my rad with an an all alloy JAPspeed item.
For the money £150 or so i thought was a really well made bit of kit, and with it being fully welded alloy compared to the plastic and folded alloy OE one it made sense to me, and should last, (although original had done well for 15 years) Mine is about twice as thick as the original and definitely runs cooler. As said above, to me looks a much better made product than the OE one. |
Running a full alloy one on mine, it does cool better for sure, although it never used to overheat on the old one :).
One thing it likes to do is burn the **** out of my hand everytime i'm under the bonnet lol. |
No hence why i'm asking people on here if its worth paying out the extra money, you can get standard radiators for as little as £35 where as your looking for triple that for alloy one

I saw the £35 radiators and then bought a alloy one for £150. There will be a good reason why they only cost £35, i wasn't willing to find out what that is. Pay your money and take your chance. |
I bought an aluminium rad from fleabay. Cost a lot, but I prefer the look of the Aluminium rad. As others have said the cooling ability of OEM rads is perfectly fine, mine just split and I thought it be nice to refresh the look a bit.

my wife rally car was hitting oil temp of 120c now with a alloy rad 95 under race contions
so it is about right 30% |
Ran an oem quality standard rad on my old car at 615bhp on v power and had no issues with water temp, oil temp at the level would get to about at 110C but that was with no external oil cooler.

Cheers lads still not decided which route to go yet but all info helps. Mines never over heated in all the years.

We have an oil cooler fitted a well and 110c is still a bit high

I've decided to go for standard radiator as i've still got to pay out for cambelt change yet, and other bits and bobs, is there any guides on here to fitting them?
