Does anyone else find that the Impreza paintwork chips easily? That on my P1 seems soft as butter, and I had problems with the MY00 too.

I was told by my dealer, (ie after asking him about the paint), that the paint on the newer cars such as the MY 99 & MY OO is softer than cars made a few years ago. He was'nt wrong either as I found out. But I didn't think it would be that soft. Its called cost cutting. Cheap parts, more profits.

I too have a P1 & share your worries regarding paintwork etc. You ought to know that there is a recall on the front bumper section for paintwork - *if* there are flakes of paint falling off etc.. look carefully (forget paint chips) --> that could mean a newly painted front bumper otherwise.........
Also looked into armourfend etc.. sounds more trouble than its worth to be honest (unless you are near a dealer)...apparently (according to my local Ferrari/Porsche dealer) - results are *questionable* - especially on such a complex front end.......circa £400+VAT - but other people have had it done, so can inform you better,

My thoughts on this post exactly, my P1 is 3 weeks old and although very aware of the paint issue I find it hard to accept on a £31k + car, as much as I love my scoob it's a hard pill to swallow, especially when the wife makes an issue out of it !
My thoughts are that I am going to ask a local top paint man to re-do the front in quality paint and explain the probs, although he'll see for himself.
Otherwise, what's the answer ?

My MY01 is due in by the end of the month, and the roads in Portugal are in such a state that I already feared for the paintword, regardless of how good it was...

Reading your post, I know i'm gonne have to ignore the issue, otherwise I'll go nuts after a week... Luckily, i'm no maniac about my scooby being all clean and shiny all the time...

I've already gone nuts here in Greece, the roads are just as bad as they are in Portugal and after being used to my cars being immaculate in OZ, I find it very hard to swallow that I can't keep the scoob in top nick here. I also have the dust factor here, can't finish the wiping process after washing and its got dust on it again. Everybody freaks out over here, over how fussy I am, as they couldn't give a "****e" about their cars.

I forgot to mention that we also get mud rain over here if it comes in from the south. It comes from the African Sahara dessert. Affects the paint if not washed promptly I've been told.

i work in the paint industry and the problem is not soft paint ,but hard paint where the cars are made it gets very hot very sunny so they make the paint harder. the way to get over this is to paint strip bonnet front wings and recoat in good european paint.Glasurit is the best on the market

is it possible to get a euro paint to match the scooby paint colour, but of better quality - more suited to our climate?

I am considering a respray on some badly chipped parts.

how much would it typically cost for quality stuff?

Looks like my dealer didn't know what he was on about then. Does that mean the paint on my scoob is suited for the Greek climate as in summer its always extremely hot and sunny, dfullerton?

yeah no probs just blend into the doors for a good match, not sure about price as i dont pay for mine ,as far as greek climate gose you might be right.Glasurit best top coat, as far as matching scoob colours not sure. if i knew how to attach pic i would show you my scoob i just repainted
