brakes - time to upgrade?
 

I'm in the need for some new brakes on my05 STi.

Currently I have some very used set so looking to get a new set of discs and pads all around.

I've been told to get EBC green all around, I don't know if they are good or if there are any good deals going anyway!

I don't need anything insane as I drive sensible most of the time, I only have a spirited drive every now and again.

Any suggestions / links would be most welcome!

Well you don't want green stuff pads, there only rated to 200bhp and I think there better suited for smaller hatches, bluestuff ain't to bad or ferodo ds2500

green stuff are terrible even after one hard brake never again! I run the Kevlar pads with godspeed grooved discs and braided lines on the road and they cope quite well even from cold, plus they aren't that expensive too

I have PF pads all round and they stand up to a lot of abuse.

Speak to Alyn at AS performance as he is helpfull and competitve with his pricing.

They are complete rubbish.

Kevlar pads and grooved discs from Godspeed would be my choice.

Depends on your use , the Grooved discs and kevlar pads are very good for there intended use , everyday driving with some spirited driving , can supply you a complete car set for £299.50 , or with PF Z rated pads at £379.50.

I think the EBC blue and orange are ok , would never recommend green's on a scooby , i'm not a big fan of reds or yellows either for the customers we supply.

I had two sets of kelver pads when there was a big hype about them. Went to back to OE pads and notice they bite better

Unusual to say the least imo rating pads by bhp but they do :)

That's crazy. So the green stuff pads will suit a car that weighs 1000kg and 2000kg?

That's a very silly way of rating a pad.

EBC have rated their pads to high should be more like 50BHP tops:D.SJ.

Agreed. Although to be fair to EBC it's only a recommendation, they don't actually say the pads are rated to 200bhp as was implied earlier.

Mind you the difference between the info EBC provide and the info provided by Ferodo on the DS2500 (a highly recommended pad) is rather teling.

Every EBC product I have experienced is total cack.
I would never advise them to anyone.

Over-priced, poor quality crap.

Yes, I know they have supposedly reworked a lot of their compounds, but in my opinion, it's too late. They got away for so long with charging crazy money for over-hyped products.

In my opinion they should at least admit where they cocked up in the past rather than saying, Hey, look - we have made some brakes that almost work!'.

Yes I would definately go with a company that's been around for over 100 years...think they may have a bit more experience :)

Thankfully on here we do have a couple of gurus who know a thing about brakes so we can point people in their direction.
