Right to the problem when I star my car theres a strong smell of petrol iv looked all underneath the car ok the filling tube that goes tight to the body of the car then disappears I can see that the metal pipe is rusty were it joins the rubber pipe which I guess goes to the tank . Iv looked at it when iv started the car but can't see any obvious signs of leaking well none (CAN ANYONE HELP! !!!! PLEASE) THANKS

Leaking injectors maybe? The seals on one of them may have corroded?

On the passenger side in the engine bay the pipe comes through the bulkhead (near the top) and joins onto a rubber pipe, these can go and leak giving you a smell of petrol.

Have a good look at that pipe in the engine compartment with the engine running, so the fuel system is under pressure.

I ignored that slight petrol smell until one day it got very strong, so I opned the bonnet to find fuel p*ssing out all over the downpipe and turbo.

I switched off and waited for the woomf as it lit, but it didn't.

ALL flexible pipe has now been replaced with this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-6mm-5-16...item3a66d8d6b9

You can get other grades, but the R9 grade will last pretty much for ever.

I bought 4 metres, ended up with about 800mm left.

DO NOT just replace one bit, do it all. Some decent stainless petrol pipe clips make a good job of it.

Mine was like that before/when the HG went.
In hindsight I put it down to fuel contaminating coolant.

Check expansion tank for bubbles.
Also, have you had short-term 'overheating' probs?

THANKS !! right now to the matter in hand well I was putting some petrol in and I was just looking at the fuel cap and its got a crack in it which has led to a 5mx5m chunk of the threaded plastic falling out and no seal in the end. so a trip to the local garage and purchased one of those twisting petrol cap and so far no SMELL OF PETROL!! . Again thanks to everyone I really do appreciate it!!!
