Has anyone ever owned a classis...
...That didn't have a leaking rocker cover gasket?
|
Yep my old type-r didn't leak one bit even after the abuse I gave it..
|
Yeah me too, but I had to do it myself as the original re-build leaked from the word go, which should have rang bells but apparently "they all do that"
|
My MY99 doesn't leak a drop either.
I took the sump undercover off when I bought the car because I wanted to check they wasn't leaking, but they were OK and they are still two years later. Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe they solved it for the MY99/00 models? |
My old 94 WRX leaked, changed the gasket, leaked again after x amount of miles. My Type R leaked before I bought it, the 2.1 was leaking before the 1000 mile mark (although I used cheap cam cover gaskets). And I've just started using a spare WRX engine and guess what.

My newage is in atm having both gaskets done, it happened on two classics i had as well.
|
My 05 wrx does it. One drip every hundred miles of so.
It made steam rise out of the bonnet scoop once at set of traffic lights. Scared the sh*t out of me! This is Impreza no.4 for me and all my previous cars did it. Changed them once on my old sti. May get round to sorting it....once I have sorted my juddering brakes! |

I think its considered a consumable with dealers ;) Mine had genuine gaskets obviously before being replaced today, so they lasted 9years.
|
Whack some silicone on the gaskets before you put them back on and you should be fine, dont forget to do it to the half moon shape grommets too.
|
Nope mines spot on
|
I know its not a classic obviously but my old 290bhp 2003 WRX blob didn't leak at all (80k miles), it was absolutely rock solid, it used less oil / coolant inbetween services than the Missus 2013 Mini Countryman (with alot more abuse lol) and my daily drive (Saab Aero). As far as solid engines go that was the pinnacle.

My Type R did not long after I bought it ! Genuine gaskets from Import Car Parts and job done :thumb:
My Newage didn't though ! |
On my 3rd classic and never had 1 leak yet.
Genuine gaskets, smear of 3 bond and the correct torque setting |
