roof flap handle...
 

iv read that a roof flap handle can be sourced but only on japan parts?...is there nowhere more local or does anyone have a spare haha?

Nowhere in this country stock them, I recently purchased one from Japan parts. It arrived within 3 weeks.
Just be aware there is import tax to pay once it arrives here and that cost me almost as much as the handle itself.

Darms was looking to buy one and was trawling for others to see if they could reduce shipping by combining the order...

Royal Mail (probably) will put a note through your door saying that there's money to pay in order to get something delivered.

It will have a reference no. which you put into their website.
(I think you click a bit that says 'paying charges' or something like that).
You pays your money and they then despatch from Customs in Coventry to you.

As has been said, you'd be surprised at the cost.

I think mine was £23 or so (inc. shipped Express Airfreight) for the first 8K miles or so and then another £13 by Royal Snail for the last 100-odd. :mad:

One thing to watch out for - I paid up quickly (day I received the note) and it hadn't turned up 10 days later. When I enquired it appears that it er.... disappeared off their radar.
Amazingly it turned up at my house the next day.

Although someone said 3 weeks I wouldn't leave it more than 1 after paying your money, just to avoid potentially longer delay if they have cocked up.

PS you'll be surprised at how tight a new one is.
I was actually concerned that it wasn't the right one, felt like it would pull the flap through the roof !

I was stually gonna buy a few because i did think that but like i say i disnt know what one i needed

If its the correct one il prob buy a bulk of them and then sell em on so it may work out cheaper for a dew others!

Can be ordered with any UK dealer with the correct part number. circa £35

Iv neve actually had a roof vent fitted and have all the parts except the handle as the vent new handle was swapped for a broken one etc

Im only fitting it because

A. I did a track day the other day and i was sweating buckets as no widows were allowed down

B. my bonnet flipped up an dented my roof so want to try and cover up a bit of damage without putting a new roof skin on

C. Looks cool

I don't think it would be worth it (if you are serious about it :)).
The greatest cost of them is the duty and freight which you'd have to pay, so your profit would only be a few quid (perhaps) on the handle itself plus whatever reduction you got in average freight.

If anyone's going to Japan then I would suggest utilising the £200 Duty-Free and baggage allowances. :D

il probably have some billet ones for sale at some point if anyone is interested in them so you can rerbuild your own broken handle

Are you aware that roof flaps/handles have an ejector mechanism that makes them abandon ship at 50Km/hr ?

However, it was nice of your bonnet to collide with your roof in exactly the right place for a flap.

Unless of course it didn't, in which case I don't know whether a roof flap located off centre 2/3 down the roof would look 'cool'.

Unique perhaps, but not sure about 'cool'.

once open i think they are fine...its just when you open them and they catch the wind which makes the handles snap and that

bonnet was my fault as i didnt insert the pins properly...****

cutting the vent out will give me an oppurtunity to straighten the bit out...i had my go pro on the roof in the centre and the damage occured where the mount folding back and pressed the camera into the roof...the dent is actually quite central albeit slightly forward of the roof flap but like i say it will give me access to do a bit of a repair...the shell is solid just has a few dents so one one in the roof wont hurt haha

I've got an admiration for anyone who has the confidence and ability to do this sort of thing.

EFA, but as long as you double check your measurements before hacking away it is as easy as that - I've done three now and they are easy:thumb:
