headlight gauge wiring

I got a new oil temp gauge as the old one decided to die
The new one needs to be wired into the headlights so it lights up when the headlights are on.

Where and how is the best method to do so? The other wires are simple as they are already there from the previous gauge.

Cheers

couple of pics of how I temporarily wired my old stack stepper motor gauge.

I needed a switched live that didn't turn off when cranking.

Ah ok, thanks!

I wired the new gauge without the illumination for now, but annoyingly the gauge was broken so now I'm waiting for a new one!

Just take a feed from the clock, there even marked up what wire its is ie live , earth illumination.

Or invest in one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELECTRIC-C...item5407ff78ce, it will find the appropriate live, (one that's live only when sidelights are on), and then you tap into that.

The illumination on your new gauge needs only thin gauge wire, 11 Amps max.
