Neither WHSmith nor Woolworth's (the only record shops in Whitehaven) are stocking "God Save the Queen" which has been re-released by the Sex Pistols. Is this the same everywhere? Have I stumbled across a Government conspiracy to rig the charts this weekend, just like in 1977? Is this the last time I will be heard of in public?

No doubt they are. They constantly rig the charts.

Or don't get the song at all.
What sort of rebellion/anarchy means having a record contract, going through the standard distribution channels, performing live in an organised event etc. Re-unions/re-releases - one of the ultimate commercial stunts. Anarchy can exist, but there is no such thing as an anarchist. They'll always be conforming to someone's ideal. I shall also quote Morrissey while I'm on a rant - 'Re-issue! Re-package! Re-Evaluate the songs, double pack witha photograph. Extra Track (and a tacky badge), A-List, playlist !Please them, please them" So appropriate. |
