How do folk afford to go out these days?

Years ago, Mrs Alcazar and I made a decision to severely limit our "going out", due to the fact that it was becoming FAR too easy to get involved in something of which we wanted no part.

(We live in a rough town, with l;ittle in the way of entertainment, lots of unemployment and pubs etc who turned a blind eye to young drinkers in order to improve profits).

Last night we were at a 60th do at a fairly posh place out of town, (converted air force base officer's mess), and I went to the bar and ordered a pint of Tetleys and a whisky and lemonade.

£7.10!!!!!!!!

Two drinks!!!!!!!

How the hell can fold afford to go out these days?

And is there ANY wonder that pubs etc are no longer full and many can't make a go of it?

You sound like a miserable old git:D

LSherratt 03 May 2014 01:52 PM

Drinks are rediciliously expensive depending on where you go. I went to a bar in Cheltenham with some old friends who I hadn't seen in a while. About £7 for a double vodka and coke, and around £8 for a medium glass of wine. Makes no sense! Some places are a lot cheaper like Weatherspoons... All depends where you go.

daviee 03 May 2014 01:54 PM

That about run of the mill for 2 drinks. The wife and I generally go to a Witherspoon pub in Greenock. You get a meal for about £7-8 and £3.50 for a double and a mixer. Quiet night £70 with a taxi in and back. If we go in to Glasgow for similar you can double that. And that's the last train home. We go out at least a Fri Sat or Sunday every week. Out tonight for a meal and some drinks. PS we are Mortage free that helps.

yabbadoo4 03 May 2014 01:56 PM

guess its the price you had to pay to have a better class of drinker around you ;)

tony de wonderful 03 May 2014 01:58 PM

Get pissed on Special Brew THEN go to the pub?

taylor85 03 May 2014 02:06 PM

If my mrs knew how much I spend in the pub a week she would go nuts , couple pints after work then a fri night out and a few on a Sunday soon adds up

JGlanzaV 03 May 2014 02:09 PM

Yep, no such thing as a quick pint its always 20quid or so every time you go to the pub...

I only try to go 2 nights a week, but it depends how bad the day at work was!

lordharding 03 May 2014 03:07 PM

The misses and me don't drink but like a bar meal once a week and normally just get line and soda but we were at a wedding do last week and was shocked at the cost of a round for a friend and ourselves for a tenner

We watched people at the bar paying £20/30 a round
A friend told me its £50 -£80 Everytime they going it he city now and even the local pub is £20 for 7 pints

I remember in my hay day it was £15-18 for a wild night out including a kebab and a drunken fumble with a big rough bird at the end of a night :D

The wife always orders a bellini - worst to date £21.00. :cuckoo:
I rarely drink - probably a good thing!

poor people are usually quite ugly too

stevebt 03 May 2014 06:05 PM

£7.10 for those two drinks isn't bad depending on where you drink. If its a local its so so but if its proper bars then that is pretty cheap :D

It's called managing the drunken binges.
I don't go out much but when we do I prefer to go to a wine n dine bar and it's nowhere near above prices, £100 for a meal and a few drinks is easily done

taylor85 03 May 2014 06:42 PM

Going out with a couple mates tonight. 3.40 a pint x 10-12 pints few chasers , couple quid in juke box , then Salvation Army will be in before you know it 70-100 quid gone

nick172sport 03 May 2014 06:52 PM

I drank in pubs every night for years since i was a teenager, but gave up about 10 years ago..
Prices are getting way out of line..

Last year i went into Manchester for a friends 40th......£7.20 for a pint of Peroni !

I nearly went home there and then.....feckin rip off....

dpb 03 May 2014 08:24 PM

Sounds kinda like the price yu pay

However, TeTleys.! .....the bitter equivalent of bass lager

We go to the pub maybe once a week. Slashing away 20 quid a visit just isn't worth it imo, not every day anyway

RA Dunk 03 May 2014 08:28 PM

Glad I'm Tea total nowadays, if you lot wish to keep giving our pigs in the trough politicians more money than they already take from you then fair play. ;)

Ant 03 May 2014 09:14 PM

Modern day society we get to the point of merry/steaming then get the taxi into town for about 9/10pm and we drink less :D

stevebt 03 May 2014 09:22 PM

I would of thought going into a normal town city on a night and it would be £5/6 a pint every time, there is exceptions but I would consider this price normal?

I take it that he is one of these fb members that leaves his profile open,or seeing as he not paid for two months, you must be pals. ?

RA Dunk 03 May 2014 09:33 PM

Cocker 03 May 2014 10:16 PM
