Mine went last Saturday! Big end bearing, common as we all seem to know. Any build is going to cost a small fortune.

4 things to remember to change before spending in the engine itself.

Modine £180
Sump £80
Oil pump £180
Cambelt £50

Then you have to decide what you plans for the car are. If your looking to modify the world is your oyster!

Second hand version 8 bottom end your looking at £800. Then the cost of gaskets and don't forget to check the heads for cracking within spark plugs thread.

Then you could just strip and replace damaged parts, con rod, piston, rings and uprate bearings to Acl and rebuild. Self build your looking at between 600-1000 if you'll get away with crack regrind but it starts to add up.

Don't forget to look at clutch whilst the engine is out.

I'd say standard 1-2k
Modified 3-30k depending on how many gee gees you wanted!

Myself, I am going to remove the engine and strip down. Assess the damage and look at cost to rebuild then consider my options. Most engine rebuilders will charge 200-300 to strip, assess and rebuild plus parts. When I say rebuilders I'm not talking about places like RCM, API more your general engine places that just do engines so don't lack knowledge just credit within Motorsport.

Give Alan at engine tuner a call or API, they will be able to give you a better idea of what might be wrong and costs.

thanks for the fast reply's i was thinking it might be around that but i thought i would check so i have a ball park when inquiring to garages i would like more power eventually but i think i could live with a stock rebuild i don't suppose you have any contact details for Alan or API ?

I was also unsure if having it rebuilt if it is worth changing it to 2.1ltr with a stroker kit ?

do people tend to do this when it comes to doing a rebuild ? and is there much power gain ?

I am probably asking some daft questions but just trying to get a idea what i have to start doing to get my P1 back on the road.
