Hi everyone...

I ordered my first scooby yesterday... Due in by the end of May.

This post is just out of personal interest... How do your other halfs (wifes, girlfriends, boyfriends (any ladies in the scooby club ?), etc) react to your scooby ?

How do they like (dislike) your driving "skills" ? How do they take it when you're out on the track every other sunday ?

My girlfriend (and future wife) isn't nutts about cars, but she understands the way I like scooby's.

I have a Legacy turbo, and my girlfriend doesn't even blink when I take a roundabout sideways. The other day, she didn't even stop the phrase she was saying while I was fighting with the throttle and the stearing to get the legacy back in line...

How do your ladies (boys) react when you're inspired ?

Max

Mine accused me of having a scoob to make up for having a small **** but I convinced her 2 inches was more than enough. It worked for a while, I am now single again... Guess she has seen the light. Or a large plastic pal...

My mates don't say too much as they think im a "rude boy" because of it looking a bit tasty. They don't know much about cars. I think they are queer though.

You may delete this if you feel this is out of character for me!

One ex thought it looked like an Orion (that's a Ford Orion - not a bunch of stars http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif) - then she went and bought a 20V Turbo Fiat Coupe....

Another ex (Ok, I have a few...) just screamed one day when I took an m'way slip road without slowing down. I mean, there was no need to... Thought I'd just run over someone from her reaction! Frightened the c&%p out of me....

Mad - if the other 'arf is like you say she is with your driving treat her with respect! And hang on to her.... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Mad Max 01 May 2001 03:10 PM

2 inches is huge http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif... Well, I have an ex (psycologist, by the way) that says exactly that... Big cars compensate for small d***s, or small minds, depending :-))
She didn't understand that someone might LIKE a car without it being a sex or power symbol.

Pleasure is something subjective, and people shouldn't judge others be what they like :-)

tarquin trousers 01 May 2001 03:13 PM

my girlfriend doesn't like it at all. All I hear is 'do you have to drive so fast???'....'You're scaring me...' 'That chap on the bonnet wants to get of.....!!'

I think its a beautiful car, but my friends say it sticks out like a sore thumb with intake vent and gold wheels...I even removed the garish....'race me' WRX sticker on the back....HEATHENS!!

Mad Max 01 May 2001 03:16 PM

Will do Hutton...

She deserves every bit of everything I can give her... she's not perfect, but she's perfect for me !!!

I think the screaming part we all have had at some point, with some ex or another... These days, I don't get the sreaming anymore, since I respect the people I drive around a lot more than I did when I was 18-24... (I'm 30 now). If I think someone doesn't like speed, they won't have a reason to complain. And I am very polite... I always ask BEFORE I starr having fun :-)

Mossman 01 May 2001 03:18 PM

He he!

My girlfriends (in the past!) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif think my Scoob was terrible. Too loud and hated that I spent so much time driving it, cleaning it or worrying about leaving it parked somewhere! They were JEALOUS!

The first time my Dad saw it, he said, and I quote, "What a w4nker!". Charming and most out of character.

As to my mates, some think it's the nuts but others refer to it as the pimp mobile and an escort with a pram handle on! Oh well!

Cheers,

Mossman

TRIGGER 01 May 2001 03:24 PM

My wife loves the Scooby - she does scream a bit when I go very fast but gets bored when I drive slowly ! What she doesnt like is the time at weekends at the Track !!

astraboy 01 May 2001 03:25 PM

Just a personal opinion, but I never cane it when my laydee is in the car with me. In fact , unless it is another boy racer (for want of a better term) in the car with me, I always stay sensible and to be honest I can't understand how anybody else can go for it when there is other people in the car.
The way I see it is that if I smash myself up and kill myself it is my problem. Okay some people might get a little upset, but no one else gets hurt. If I take other people with me then its out of order on my part.
I also see it as I am carrying the most precious cargo I am ever going to (i.e. someone who is willing to go out with the astraboy. Its a rarity I can tell you. I'm considering having her stuffed http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif ) So I cant **** about at warp speed.
astraboy.

bennetm 01 May 2001 03:30 PM

Astraboy,

Are you never tempted to get people to "see what that red button does!?"

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Mad Max 01 May 2001 03:31 PM

Well, she won't complain about me spending too much time with it, since I'm not really the kind of guy that does that...

I like a car to be fun when I feel like it (most days of my life !), but I like it discrete. No noise, no stuckers, no show-off. It was even one of the reasons I ordered the 5 door... Discrete... But I want it trouble free so I can just get on with my very busy life.

No cleaning of polishing every weekend, no upgrading (Except maybe for something discrete in the engine), no noisy exhaust, no outside re-styling. Just plain fast and deadly. Scoobys are all that !

Can't wait ! Damn, I feel like a kid on Christmas week http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Sold mine, but girlie didn't like me booting it out of roundabouts. Usually the headrest rammed her hairclip into the back of her skull! I think she tolerated it most of the time.

Mad Max, two questions: a) you say you've just ordered your first scooby, but then you say you have a legacy. Do you mean you've just ordered an Impreza?
b) If the latter, and it's an MY01, can you mail me when you get it, as we seem to be in the same locality, and I'd love to get close to one so I can judge for myself!

If your dad reckons your a w4nker what would he think of me, `cos I bet I am as old if not older than he is? Come on - tell us what sensible car he drives! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/mica/Cartangry.gif

My wife's the same as Trigger's - not literally, I hope. Made the mistake of getting her to drive my car more, too. She loves it, and no longer has any qualms about just flooring it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Max - hold onto that one http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif . I hear they're quite rare!

......I got my scoob the day my fiancee booted me and I moved out.......hehehehehehhe best thing that ever happened to me......God I love being so shallow and heartless http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif ......my commiserations to those of u who get whinged at....remember a divorce is only a solicitors letter away http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Markus 01 May 2001 03:45 PM

SuzyQ does not like my driving, but that's regardless of the car.

She does like cars and does like to drive the scooby, and she drives it hard! put it this way, she'll nail it more than I will and it's my car!

She likes the fact that rep man gets narked of when she hassles him for tailgating her.

Well, I agree with Astraboy... Most of the time, I drive calm with company, but I really like go sideways... And roundabouts perfect for just that...

Being flat out is something else, and I only do it when I'm alone (And not that often). But having "a little fun" is mostly harmless, and is more than enough to impress the hell out of most people who want to be impressed. Those friends who ASK me to show them how fast it goes.

I like to play it safe and fast (in that order), and would rather play it safe than put anybody at risk.

The only "problem" is that my girlfriend is always with me (except going to work), therefore if I want a little fun, she is in on the ride (and doesn't mind either). That' why Flat out is something of a rarity, but fast is the usual driving style.

Respecting everyone else on the road is the other rule I apply very strictly. Here in portugal, the usual driving style is very agressive. Everyone drives too close to the guy in front of you (Even if it's a porche, which is suicidal), lights, horn, everything to overtake the guy in front of you. With a scooby, doing that kind of driving would mean always agressing the guy in front of me... Not my stile ! I drive calm and relaxed, and when I have space, I have fun. guiving the good example is important for people with good cars, since the "kids" out there tend to take us as an example, and get killed doing it ... Might start a thread on this subject later...

kav 01 May 2001 03:50 PM

She hates it with a passion (as does my daughter)but ironically, the scoob keys are the 1st set she'll grab when she goes out.

IWatkins 01 May 2001 03:53 PM

My missus is like this: "....3 left, opens, 80, crest into 4 right, don't cut......."

or

"...Slow down, why you driving so fast, mind that car, SCCCREEEAAMMMM, you nearly hit him...."

Can't shoot them and you can't shoot them http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Cheers

Yup, It's an MY01... And it's due in before the end of May, which, if you're in Portugal, you know it translates into End of June.

But if you're in Lisbon, you might even get a chance of trying one out... Do as I did. Get your best suit on (Yes, you know it's important here), make a call to Entreposto Olivais, end tell them you're interested in one. They will be more than happy to allow you to test-drive the car the director is driving.

Keep an eye out on the site... I sure as hell am going to be posting a lot when I start driving it :-)

Why did you sell yours brendan ?

Mad Max 01 May 2001 03:57 PM

IWatkins...

Please elucidate ? How can she be both ? Or are you talking about the wife and the "lover" ?

Simon Insull 01 May 2001 04:01 PM

Well, my wife loves my Impreza and positively encouraged the purchase of it even though we've only recently bought a house!!

As for the comparison to the trouser department, I'm sure she'll deny that furiously (though I couldn't possibly comment).

Scared her the first couple of times we went out in it (and me if I'm telling the truth) but she loves it now. She won't use the turbo when she's driving though, which is REALLY FUNNY!!

It's all very subjective though, many love cars, many don't. Just depends who you get landed with IMHO.

Cheers
Si

1. End of the year, I thought http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
2. No way! I'm supposed to be taking time to make rational informed decisions about my future! That would mess up everything!
3. You kidding? This BBS is my entire social life!!
4. Coz I moved out here, And I didn't want RHD here (tried it before, can't overtake much), And I was poor, And I got p'd off that I couldn't put anything in the boot (Terzo so no folding rear seat)... nuff said?

Anyway, I'm here temporarily for now (to October) but hoping to get a 5 yr contract which I'll learn in July-ish, so we'll see what transport I get after that!

Scoobychick 01 May 2001 04:18 PM

All my non-scooby owning male mates can't understand what I love about my scoob, in fact they all think I'm very sad (which may be true http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif ) and even sadder 'cos I spend all my free time on scoobynet. When they come out in my car for a quick blat and I wave at another scoob they die of embarrasment......hehehehehehehe http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Mad Max 01 May 2001 04:26 PM

1. Wich Year ?
2. It's just a test drive, not a life depending decision
4. You should have bought a 5 door http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Good luck on your contract... How do you like portugal ? And portuguese drivers ? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Love that gif. He drives a Carina Estate, aaargghh!!!!!!!!

astraboy 01 May 2001 04:45 PM

Bennett,
You really like Nitrous, don't you? I must admit to getting passangers (boy racers) to flip the switch themselves when I am flat out so that I can concentrate on keeping the bloody thing in a straight line http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
astraboy.

Mad Max 01 May 2001 04:59 PM

Scoobychick... you're a lady, right ?

So, your "pals" don't understand ??? But most males like cars... People who like cars like scoobys... I don't get it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Well, must be fun to annoy all the boys http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

How about your "boyfriend" ? What does he think ?
