Tesco - kindle vs galaxy tab.
 

I am stuck for something for my birthday and spotted Tescos have reductions on the Kindle fire hd £95, and the Galaxy tab 3 .£80. Both are 7" and 8gb.

My pros/cons and general questions are -

My mobile is android so my apps will go on the Galaxy (is that right ? Do paid app just get downloaded onto another device ?) Galaxy has a micro sd slot so I can quite easily take my pre loaded 32gb out of my mobile when on hols etc. It has cameras , so its like a mobile without the phone aspect.

The kindle will allow me to make use of my LoveFilm account , but thats about it !

Does anyone have any comments on which device is better ? Im swaying towards the Galaxy tab at the min.

In what way ? In reality I'll just be using it the way I use my Galaxy S2 (apart from the phone bit) listening to music, browsing web , games and apps. Will it even compare to the mobile ?

For what you have listed the Galaxy Tab 3 would be ideal and a bit of a bargain at £80 if you can live without LoveFilm.

I *think* the Kindle Fire is designed more to be an eReading tablet, by that I mean the launcher / front end is designed by Amazon to primarily cater for ebooks, or the other services they provide (movies and audio). I'm not sure how locked down it is by default, as in, how easy it is to add other apps and change the launcher, ie; make it as though it's a normal Android tablet.

The same can be said for our Kobo tablets, that have a custom Launcher which obviously pushes the eReading capability of the tablet and our service, but it does support Google Play and you can install apps on it.

If you want a tablet for eReading specifically then the Fire might be a better bet, well, if you have, or want to buy books from Amazon.

Personally I'd go for the Galaxy, if you want to do the eReading thing you can install whatever apps you want (Kindle, Kobo, Overdrive, possibly Bluefire Reader - that might be iOS only though) to handle that, but because it's an Android tablet first, and not an eReading tablet first, there shouldn't be anything getting in the way of normal use.

Both the Galaxy tab 3 and Kindle Fire HD are dual core processor tablets. The Galaxy tab 3 was dated - and reviewed badly - when it was released. The KFHD lacks outputs and the Google app store.

You're better off comparing them to the Tesco Hudl. BTW - Clubcard boost is still available to translate Tesco vouchers (times 2) for money off the Hudl. Hudl has a better screen and will outperform the others for most things. Its cameras are crap and IMO could do with an extra gig of RAM but how much do you want to multi-task on a 7" tablet?

Tesco have the LG G-Pad 8.3 for £119. Picked one up yesterday and it's a superb tablet for the money.

Unlikely to find it now unless your very lucky! But a very good tablet - my preference would be nexus 7 if you can stretch your budget to £159 (carphone warehouse).

My eldest did loads of research and bought the Fire HD. loves it.

Got the galaxy tab in the end. Big thanks to the chick in Tesco , I gave her my number (she wouldn't give me hers) to ring me when stock game in. Got a call today even though the offer ended yesterday it was still scanning through at half price. Got a fiver off a cover too :)

I bough a Hudl for my wife about 3 months ago.
Only comments I would have is that I think the 7" screen is too small.

I'm kinda in the middle at the min. The tab 3 is literally a giant version of my phone (galaxy s2). It feels weired going between them , tab feels huge and heavy till I get used to it , then my phone feels tiny when I go back ! My only real complaint at the min is the difference in screen quality is night and day. My phone is far better , which is a bit annoying when I go between devices to watch video.I have a decision between picture size or quality .

Another thing is taking the memory card out of my mobile is a pain (turn off ,take cover off , remove back , remove battery) I know thats no fault of the tab , but it still annoys me :)
