Thanks, I shouldn't have been so lazy and put that up myself....:brickwall

Dr Hu 17 April 2014 02:22 PM

9.03pm tonight then - visible for 5 mins - West going towards East South East :)

Bit cloudy today though!

Henrik 19 April 2014 12:11 AM

I went out tonight to view the station for three minutes.

If you're just a little bit of a space nerd, you have to outside and see it sometime, it's really quite cool tbh. Very much brighter than I thought it would be (almost as bright as Jupiter).

I'm happy I've seen it. I think I might have caught a glimpse of it before as well, but not known what it was (though it might just have been other satellites tbh).

Alg 19 April 2014 09:21 PM

Just watched this from Newmarket. Amazing! Totally clear night and so bright as it whizzed across the sky at 17500mph for 4 minutes.

scoobygaz1 19 April 2014 09:39 PM

Have seen it a couple of times amazing to think people are in it looking down at us!

How do you know where to look. Do you need binoculars?

dunx 19 April 2014 10:21 PM

See website above, and you just need little cloud as it's moving almost as fast as a jet at cruising speed...

HTH

dunx

P.S. Other satellites are also visible, much much less bright and moving in almost any direction possible....

albob 20 April 2014 09:00 PM

"..Do you need binoculars.."

No - It looks like a very bright star - but moving very fast

Check the website, as suggest, for direction

paulr 20 April 2014 10:56 PM

Went out, never saw a thing??

neither did I !

the past few nights it has been at a 'good' height..

last night only 10 degrees above the horizon.

Might be better tonight - 18 degrees and visible for 5 mins

paulr 21 April 2014 08:50 PM

Tonight the website says 21.02.
The iss app I have which seems to show real time position, shows it going over Portugal, not the uk?

Matteeboy 21 April 2014 08:53 PM

Won't be long before the Taliban try and shoot it down.

I saw it too; bloody fast thing. Might even give my M135i a run for it's money ;)

I'm not an expert on this - but - given the height of the ISS above the earth, it could well have been over Portugal but 'visible' from the UK.

I forgot to go out and try to see it last night !! :(

If my calculations are correct, assuming that the ISS is at 370km, you should be able to see it from about 2170km over its true position (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon)

Portugal appears to be well within the distance limit, assuming you're not at the top of Scotland :)
