Put your group buying of the radar detectors on hold. SPECS the digital speed detection device is nearly here. 60 (Yes sixty) are being installed on the M25 between the A3 and M40 on Monday 14th June.

They can deal with 60,000 tickets EVERY HOUR!!!
And as we are all aware are not detectable by our trusty BEL 990i's.

Old thread but its a coming!!

True but still lots of yellow jackets lurking behind bushes, Laser equipped vans on bridges. If I can eliminate them then thats a big help IMHO.

This is interesting in that the writeup in the papers about the trial of SPECS in nottingham was that it was a complete waste of money. YES, they admited that they lost revenue through it! must be a first.

From what I recall people sussed which cameras were 'live' and slowed down for that batch, then speeded up again.

Bel's won't detect them but what about Morpheous's Geodosy(sp?). As it is GPS and relies on positioning, rather than IR detection then it might be a bit of help. But as the live cameras will probably be shuffled I doubt it'd be of any major use.

Not sure your right, but I'll get one of my guys to find out. We are trying to supply some equipment to the company that supplies SPECS. As far as I'm concerned the next areas that are happening are Northampton and Gloucster.

Ian,

i don't know your source, the the "60,000 an hour" sounds very much like the hoax e-mail doing the rounds a couple of years ago.

As motorways are undoubtably the safest roads in Britain, it would be a false (safety) economy to fit such devices there.

is SPECS the 'average speed' system.

time for conservative i think

Ian Cook 04 May 2001 07:59 PM

Erm, the thing is there are already cameras on that stretch of the M25 ??? thats the variable speed limit section !

There is a hoax mail going round again, saying that the blue poles on the a and b roads are specs as well !!! in fact they are traffic master !
