The Spec C 4 1/2 years on...

I've been lucky enough to own my Spec C from 'new'.

It’s had a fair few changes... (Mostly underneath ;))

http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/v...magejpg1-1.jpg

It's my daily drive and gets used for work, the odd school run and the Nurburgring :thumb:

Here's some pictures of a few of the changes I've made...

New style AP's with fully floating discs and Speedline Turini's.

KW Clubsport's with some custom made rear extenders.

http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/v.../imagejpg1.jpg

Recaro Pole Position ABE seats with custom mounts.

At the 'ring.

After a bit of a clean :thumb:

It's a fine line to have a car that you can use every day and then take to the track and I feel for my requirements now, it's just about the perfect compromise.
It hasn't come easy and it's been a bit of a journey but I think the trick is knowing when to stop.

Thanks to RCM for their excellent work and support :notworthy

Comments welcome ...

Awesome car, well done!
Have you done anything engine wise (e.g. exhaust, remap)?
Do you actually live in Norway? It must be great to drive it on the snowed up roads :)

Looks really really nice mate......
Did the ap brakes make a massive difference? They look massive......
Any poly bushes on it?

Thanks for the kind words :thumb:

It has a Milltek exhaust, Zircotec ceramic coating, STI panel filter and remap. Also has an RCM track attack catch tank and RCM baffled sump.

I did used to live in Norway but moved back last year. I was lucky enough to have the car with me over there and it was indeed great fun on the snow with proper snow tyres :thumb:

The AP's, like the seats are something I wished I'd done the first day I got it.
Big difference in performance and provide so much confidence in the car.

No poly bushes...
I've used the STI pillow ball lateral links & trailing arms in the rear along with the STI 21mm anti roll bar & drop links from the RA-R.
In the front I've used RCM pillow balls for the front wishbones and the STI 21mm anti roll bar.

I like the choice of modifications, where it all matters, i.e. suspension mainly :)

What do you mean by "RCM pillow balls for the front wishbones" are these ball joints? Do you have a pic?

What are the seats like in long journeys?

scoobyboy1 06 April 2014 07:41 PM

Perfect car, dont get much better then a white spec c!!

Kedlestone 06 April 2014 07:42 PM

Nic what did you do to stop the seatbelt warning alarm going off when you fitted the recaros out of interest :)

The RCM pillow balls are pillow ball bushes for the front wishbones (2 per side) not the ball joints.

They look like theses ones..

http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/v...magejpg1-2.jpg

Although they're the Cusco ones Fitted in the rear hub.

The seats are great! I can't fault them.
Better on long journeys, more comfortable, much better support, massively improved driving position and still retain OE fore and aft adjustment and OE 3 point seat belt.

Nothing, I still use the OE seatbelt. :thumb:

My bad, just assumed you'd gone to harnesses, should look more carefully at the pics! :)

Interesting! What effect did you notice with the pillow ball bushes at the front?

I also have the STi pillow ball trailing arms and lateral links and the car felt more planted with them on although I think they add a little more "rotation" (i.e. the rear turns quicker) than the OEM bushes.

Is the seating position any lower with the Recaros?

One of the best modifications I did to my previous car was fitting Recaros, you can feel the car so much better and allows you to explore the limit more safely.

I see that you use a CGLock, does the seatbelt slide freely and lock you in place without it?

I agree, the STI links make a massive improvement over the OEM bushes. I've found, as you say, they add a little more rotation.
The fronts improve steering feel and turn in although it's more of a subtle difference than the rear links. The steering feels very direct.

I've actually removed the CG locks as I don't think they're necessary any more with the Recaros but they do work well :thumb:

The Pole Positions are sat approx 3" lower than the OE seats and make for a much better driving position.

That is one very nice Spec C and a credit to you Sir :notworthy :thumb:

^This.
You don't often see people focusing on the essentials and enjoying the car.
Perfect choice of mods, I like the fact that it seems to be a perfect "compromise" between an occasional track day car as well as an every day car.

RB5 Boyo 07 April 2014 12:40 AM

A spec c....hawkeye....in white....with turinis????

I salute you....it doesn't come much better than that :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

They were destined to be converted to Group N cars for rally, but the team overstocked and an end to a certain rally progmme meant they were spared the rigors of life as a rally car. :)

stevemoir 07 April 2014 04:44 PM

Loving the car are your speedlines 8 or 8.5 and what size tyres do you run with them

Thanks

Steve

frayz 07 April 2014 04:51 PM

That is a perfectly enhanced Subaru. Just the right mix, I wish I had stopped there many joins ago. Superb job. :thumb':

STI Glenn 07 April 2014 05:04 PM

Like said awsome car ,all the right mods

Suberman 07 April 2014 05:14 PM

Wow! a Hawkeye Spec C. The best Spec C ever! :D

Car is looking absolutely perfect Nic! :notworthy Those choice mods. You sir have great taste and certainly know what you're doing. :thumb:

Some questions.

- How much lower roughly do the recaros seat you?

I was just 1 week too late to get a new set of the RA-R recaros. They are no longer in production, and i'm considering getting a set of recaros as well. But it's gotta be all black like yours. Was considering getting the RS-G which is basically the same seat as the RA-R optional recaros except it doesn't have the STI badge.

- From the pics, it appears the shoulder bolster area doesn't quite clear the B pillar? Or does it?

What size and offset are those Turinis? I couldn't find them in 8.5" x 18".

This is perfection.

Errol

They're 18x8 ET48 with 225/40R18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
I'm going to get another set for track and run 235/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. :thumb:

Hello mate :D

The Recaro's can be made to sit pretty much where ever you like.
I used Buddy Club seat rails with some custom side mounts and they currently sit approximately 3" lower.

Shoulder bolster clears :thumb:

http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/v...magejpg1-3.jpg

Turini's are 18x8 ET48 but you can also get 18x8.5 ET52 if you'd rather :thumb:

How's yours?
