White smoke!!

So the last two days now when starting my car first thing in the morning there's been plooms and plooms of thick white smoke coming out. Minute it's up to temp it's fine, doesn't smoke on boost. I can leave te car for two hours then start it up and nothing. Leave it over night however and it's the same story. Only had the car a week. Has anyone got an idea what it is?
Temp stays constant, heaters are hot. Ticks over fine and boosts fine..
Stumped.
Turbo 2000
3 inch decat downpipe
Td05 20g
Bigger intercoolers
440cc injectors
Walbro fuel pump
1.4bar of boost

Cheers lads

Using oil/ water?

JonMc 03 April 2014 09:27 PM

What's your oil pressure gauge say:wonder:

Kingaz89 03 April 2014 09:37 PM

Oil pressure gauge doesn't work, all the solenoid and that is there under the bonnet but it doesn't work. Used about 1/2 a litre of oil since iv had it (1 week) has been driven hard though lol

JonMc 03 April 2014 09:41 PM

Half a litre in a week, even driven hard, is a lot unless you've smashed a 1000 or so miles. Get it checked as it could be the turbo, rings or bottom end on its way out.

If it was a forged engine it may smoke on start up but you don't mention that:(

Kingaz89 03 April 2014 09:55 PM

Weird how soon as it's warm there's no smoke whatsoever! Will have to get it booked in somewhere though. Cheers lads

JonMc 03 April 2014 09:58 PM

Not at all, if the rings are slightly worn as they warm up they'll expand and then seal up - it'll take more than a couple of hours for the heat to disappate:thumb:

Kingaz89 03 April 2014 10:03 PM

Ohh I see, forget to say turbo is new aswell if that could point towards anything? I'm guessing the only way to check rings is with a compression test? Think it's got piston slap aswell, makes a very quiet knocking echoey noise

White smoke would indicate head gasket or possibly cracked head. rings and valve stems tend to be more blueish dark smoke out the back and normally smell of oil is present if it's as thick as you make out.

Ill make a video tmoz and post the link on here for u

Definitely not condensation? And possibly a little paranoia? Check intercooler for oil

CutMasterT 03 April 2014 10:37 PM

mine does this and im fairly its condensation - Recently with the warmer and drier weather it hasn't been anywhere near as much as when it was colder and damper in the mornings

Kingaz89 03 April 2014 10:40 PM

When I say I start it up first thing in the morning I mean midday lmao so the weather has
Had chance to warm up. If there's oil in the intercoolers what will this indicate?

mnem1c 03 April 2014 10:44 PM

Sniff test and compression check.

Kingaz89 03 April 2014 11:02 PM

Sniff test?

mnem1c 03 April 2014 11:18 PM

A sniff test also known as a tk test,co test, block tester works by sampling the air in the cooling system at the radiator filler, when combustion gas is present it causes the testing fluid in the tester to change colour.

gingeral 04 April 2014 12:32 AM

Mine did this for about a week then stopped, found out it was due to having a hole in the exhaust and water was get in.

Kingaz89 04 April 2014 01:19 AM

I'll give it a good going over at the weekend. No one answered what oil In the intercooler would indicate?

JaptechSmokey 04 April 2014 11:02 AM

oil in intercooler would indicate your turbo passing oil

scc28 04 April 2014 11:27 AM

oil in the ic, could come from head breathers or the pcv vent, both of which go to the intake. so might not be shot turbo!

Kingaz89 04 April 2014 11:45 AM

So started it up this morning and just a tiny but if smoke

exevo3 04 April 2014 12:10 PM

i reckon its condensation...mine does it when the engine is stone cold. since the weather has warmed up its not as bad.

white is water blue is oil and brown smoke fuel running rich.. if you have a problem in your case white smoke you would be useing water.
