Clegg vs Farage?

Tonight, apparently.
Will you be watching? Do you expect Clegg to win, or Farage?

Moz_Rb5 26 March 2014 04:50 PM

I'll be watching, I like farage not saying he is a good mp / mep but I like his tyle lol, still a scumbag like the rest of the crooks though

LSherratt 26 March 2014 06:47 PM

What channel/time?

alcazar 26 March 2014 06:48 PM

Sky, I believe news channel? From about 6 with the debate later?

neil-h 26 March 2014 06:55 PM

So why do those who voted for Farage to hand Clegg his arse reckon this'll be the case?

jods 26 March 2014 07:59 PM

Because Clegg is a tw@t

jods 26 March 2014 08:33 PM

Nigel is winning this hands down

jods 26 March 2014 08:58 PM

Clegg supports gay marriage. Of course he would.

dpb 26 March 2014 09:13 PM

It wouldn't mean a damn thing even if they were to get down an dirty on the studio floor

pslewis 26 March 2014 09:18 PM

Clegg kept saying, 'Pulling up the drawbridge' ..... yawn ..

Cleggy just used scare tactics .... no substance whatsoever.

That said Clegg had the most to lose, Farage had nothing to lose (just the same reason Clegg did well in the Brown, Cameron, debates)

alcazar 26 March 2014 09:26 PM

I gave it Farage 13-8.
You-Gov gave it Farage 9-4.

Decent points both sides, but I'm still more anti-EC than I was two years ago.

pslewis 26 March 2014 09:29 PM

45,000 kids in foreign countries receive child benefit from us taxpayers, even though they have never, ever, stepped foot in this country!

Clegg wanted to call it as a small % - I liked how Farage pointed out the actual numbers!!

45,000 FFS!!!

alcazar 26 March 2014 09:38 PM

45 would be too many. 45000 is ridiculous.

Clegg lied...he tried to say they couldn't claim, but Farage put him right..they CAN claim if in work, or after 6 months if out of work.

For me, if out of work, WHAT THE FEK ARE THEY HERE FOR????

dpb 26 March 2014 10:00 PM

Should stop its true, especially if not reciprocated by our neighbours

Where I work is a Polish night shunter called Andreas and we had this debate. He had his kids over here in UK schools, but the discipline was so bad he took them out and sent them back to Poland to school there. He claims child benefit, in his eyes why shouldn't he. He pays all UK taxes, so should get all UK benefits.

dpb 26 March 2014 10:14 PM

Is he resident here?

He has worked here since 2004. He does permanent nights because no one else will. Nice guy.
He came over because in 2004 the UK advertised in Poland for people to come over to do the jobs UK people wouldn't.
He was appalled at the poor discipline in schools, and sent his kids back to Poland.

In one way he is freeing up school places.

paulr 26 March 2014 10:31 PM

Btw, I thought Clegg held up well. Always easy to be the critic. Much harder to actually do something.

Is this on any iplayer, missed it..

It wasn't good he wouldn't look him in the eye imo.

I'm sure it was strategy but even so

That's b0ll0cks,i know loads of british lads who would do his job .....

Clegg is a polished performer, Farage not at his best, but still won it.

Not much on immigration which is the real decider for the undecided IMO

All politicians are dodgy on immigration. They can't change the fact immigrants have lowered wages.....FACT.

Clegg held up better than I thought he would, but then he is more the real/professional politician.

No argument from me on that, economics 101, supply and demand

Martin2005 27 March 2014 11:50 AM

I thought they both did a good job of representing their respective positions.

I don't really agree with either of them (well maybe slightly more Clegg), the answer to the EU question lies somewhere between these two extreme postions. Ultimately I hope we get some more pragmatism and less ideology on this subject.

Do I want us to stay in the EU - on balance yes
Do I think the world will come to an end if we leave - no
