Probably a very common question, but having heard stories all over, I thought i'd ask here to get a lot of opinions:

Question: What air filter are you using on your Impreza Turbo?

1. Standard Subaru paper air filter
2. K&N Panel filter
3. ITG Foam panel air filter
4. other panel air filter
5. K&N indiction air filter
6. other induction kit

And what are the benefits of a sports panel filter to a standard paper one, and that of an induction kit to a standard/sports panel filter?

In my case it's a MY98 Turbo (155kW-211hp) in Belgium

Pipercross Induction. The only difference that I can honestly say is the sound. I like the wastegate chatter everytime I lift my foot off the accellerator.

HKS Super Racing Suction kit..

Nice Noise.

I run an ITG at the moment, that works really nicely with a decat exhaust system.

For sound and breathing a Blitz SUS cant be beaten I rate the HKS very closely. But for out right power and performance the APS HFA gives the best gains, but it is advised to have fit with a remap. Cold air kits are the most effective on a Turbo Charged car like the Impreza.

K & N are a good compromise as they are great value, have excelent filtration and sound nice too!

OK, thanks for the replies...

Seems best way to go is some induction kit, instead of a panel filter in the original air box, is that right?

What about reliability? do the sports filter kits like the Blitz and similar filter OK and protect my engine, or is there any increased danger compared to the standard airbox with paper filter from subaru?

Out of curiousity, how much is the APS Jamie? They look real tasty.
