A/F sensor (p0031 fault) (lambda sensor issue pls help

hello, i been looking and looking and not found a cure as of yet
im looking at getting a new age wrx but it has fault code p0031, they have replaced the sensor with a denso part and fault didnt clear,
i dont know if they cleared the fault after fitting new part and i dont know if its a genuine subaru part or a copy part (i know denso made the original but subaru would have put a paintent on there own version of the part)

any one have any ideas what it could be?
thank you

Isn't there two in a newage WRX ? ,, did they change the one in the headers and the one in the exhaust ?

I have the same code lol

T32ER 26 March 2014 06:48 AM

It's the one in the headers bud

That's a code for heater control of the sensor, chances are it's in the wiring, have you got 12v and an earth at the connector?

I can't answer that as I'm looking at buying the car, if it's a quick fix then I'm in for having the car, if it's guna cost hundreds then I'm out, what's worst case?
I was told the part has been replaced with a denso part but didn't clear fault, was told the fault came straight back but not told if the daw was running or not when it came back.
I want the car, it's nice and tidy

if your getting the same error after replacing the sensor and resetting the ecu then it would point towards the wiring.

T32ER 26 March 2014 10:23 AM

Just been told that the code comes back within 5 secs of it being cleared

How are we supposed to say if it's a quick fix or not?? Unfortunately it's impossible! Buy it and fix it or don't buy it! You could find a wiring fault in minutes or hours or days! Offer aprice that reflects the fault! If they can fix it, I would leave it! Is it private or trader?

It's funny as other ppl and places I have spoken too have helped and now given me many out comes with rough time scales if it is x y z and based it on the info I have.... It's likely to be wire issue as the fault comes back once the part was replaced and the car was not running, worst case is it could be data issue within the Ecu,
I'm on hope to collect the car on Sat, it drives it's just in gimp mode. Thank you for the help and I must say yet again "sarcastic" comments. If you can't offer any help or support why comment??? I'm told to ask Qs on here to find answers yet sarcasm arrives again, I sharnt ask any more on here , a lot of ppl like to help or offer help, if you look over past posts on same sort of thing and there is lots of help and no pointless comments, what's happed over the last few years??
Thank you to the ppl who do help others and thanks a bunch to the ones who like to know it all and bunch to the ones who don't.......:)

none genuine 02 sensor or wiring would be my guess but without seeing it as a previous posters say your between a rock and hard place re buying.

Denso part used as a replacement, erase code, turn on ign and code comes back, it being a A/F sensor it wouldn't record any thing if the engine is not running so shouldn't pop a code till it's started BUT if the sensors heater element doesn't heat up like it should it should ping a code before starting it or if there is a elec issue between Ecu and the sensor it will bring the code up again before starting the engine
