Recommend oil

Hi all , New to this site and after some advice.
I have an 02 wrx on 86,000 miles
road use but do give the car a good drive
Im running 340bhp using bigger turbo and supporting mods / remap.
just wondering what oil would be best . Its had castrol edge sport 10w60 in for the last 4 years/20,000 miles and everythings spot on. Although after searching this forum it seems to be too thick !?
The previous owner has had a H/P oil pump fitted if that makes any diff.
Thanks, Steve

H Steve

Yes, a 10w-60 is too thick and 5w-40 would be better.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

Cheers

Tim

Is this ok for hard driving aswell? If I decided too would this cope with one or two track days a year?
5w40 seems thin . Is 10w50 no good ?
Thanks

10w50 would be better suited for track and hard driving or 10w60 is way too thick though

Im torn between 10w50 and 5w40 now :(. I like to give it a good blast but also like a chilled out drive . I warm it up for a good 10 mins either way

Hi

If you go for one of the better 5w-40s that I mentioned, that will be fine for hard road use and some track time. 10w-50 would probably be fine, but as it's mainly getting used on the road, a 5w-40 would be a better choice.

Hi, I have a 03 wrx and the book recommends 5\30 is this ok or wat would be better? The car is pretty standard.

oilman 25 March 2014 02:16 PM

Hi

A 5w-30 is fine for a standard car, but if you have done a little bit to it and it gets driven hard, a 5w-40 would be a better choice.

Sorry to hijack the thread, oilman I have filled the online form out and await your guidance but one question - Is is safe to use flushing oil before the fresh oil is used. Want to make sure I can get the inside as clean as possible before adding new oil and filter :)

Thanks In Advance and OP, sorry for the hijack :)
