Version 5 Oil Change DIY
Hi im new on hear and recently purchased a V5 STI. its coming up to that 3000 mile marker and i want to get my hands dirty. Any hints or tips would be great please etc, how to do, what to do first, best place's to buy filters and oil etc.
Many Thanks  |
Buy oil of choice & a filter with a new copper sealing ring, Warm engine as it makes oil drain easier, let it cool a bit, place container under car, Undo the sump plug and recover don't let it drop in the container and have to play fish. Wait and have a fag or coffee or undo the old filter. REPLACE the copper ring and screw in the sump plug. Fill the new filter with new oil to the brim and screw back up onto the car tight. Put new engine oil in via the filler neck and fill to the bottom marker on the stick not the top one. Once oil is at the lower maker undo the connection from the crank sensor and turn the engine over for 20-30 seconds to prime the engine with oil. Replace the crank sensor connector and start the engine. Let it warm up and check the level when warm that it isn't above the upper dip stick mark.:thumb:

Hi
A 10w-50 is ideal for your car if it's modified. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx Those are really good oils, absolute top of the range ones, so go with any brand preference you have. A 10w-40 is a better choice if it's standard or close to it http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx The best ones are the Gulf Competition, Motul 300V, Red Line and Millers CFS. As a cheaper alternative the Fuchs XTR, Motul 6100, Shell HX7 and Millers XSS are good choices. Cheers Tim |
cheers everyone shall be doing this in the next 200 miles :)
