Beer

So I was just browsing through the Tesco website looking at the drinks,I sometimes just buy a four pack from an off licence or londis if I fancy a beer.
Decided to look at the multipacks 12/24 cans etc,and noticed how most of the brands of beer now are mainly 330ml or 440ml,this is something I didn't really take much notice of until now.Even the Stella is 440ml cans.
Where as the 500ml cans all gone,is this some Government/Euro crap poking their noses in on our lives again..

dpb 23 March 2014 02:51 PM

They probably just hope you won't notice..

Lisawrx 23 March 2014 02:57 PM

Give less, charge more.

At one time, multi-packs used to be in cases of 15/24, most now are 12/20, yet the price still goes up.

boomer 23 March 2014 03:01 PM

Scrumpy Jack is in 500ml cans in my local newsagent, but as you say - 440ml in Tesco.

Then again, i try my best to avoid Tesco wherever possible.

Well spotted Lisa, yes I have noticed they seem to be now in packs of 20.And the cheeky feckers advertise 6 x Heineken imported 5% lager 330ml £5.00.I want 500ml,not some crappy one sip 330ml and it's gone.
Is it the % of beer!seems the higher the alcohol level the less ml can you get..

JGlanzaV 23 March 2014 03:15 PM

Go to Aldi, 4 cans of carlsberg or similar el cheapo beer is £2.99, or the big 650ml bottles are 1.69 :)

G.Mac 23 March 2014 03:19 PM

Aye, When I worked for the Scottish Fisheries we used to get duty free beer and the beer of choice was usually Becks (which I like) and that came in the normal 330ml bottles unlike the poxy 275mm bottles we buy out the shops. Why should duty free be 330ml and the over priced stuff be 275ml?

granted it was back in 2003 but the duty free becks was working in at 3 bottles for a pound :)

oh aye, everywhere else round the world a case of beer is 24 cans / bottles, whats all this nonsense about multiples of 12 / 18 20 etc a case should be 24 end off....and relax

fatscoobfella1 23 March 2014 03:24 PM

Tesco/Morrisons and Asda do a deal on proper beer now and again.. £5 for 4..

And all are in 500ml bottles apart from the odd one..

Eurofizz isnt worth a carrot in any amount..Its pish, some of the premium pilsners are lovely though..

Yea I like becks, kronenbourg, and all that type.Think I gonna have to ask work about doing some trips to Belgium again, stop off at the hypermarket in Calais, last time I got 24 500ml cans of San Miguel for a £5.00 :D at pidou
Same with fags, the guys at work buy abroad, can't say I blame them when a pack of 20 fags is £8.00/£9.00 a pack in UK.

dazsti72 23 March 2014 04:26 PM

That's why I make my own.:thumb:

nizmo80 23 March 2014 04:43 PM

smokes are doing 19 in a pack now instead of 20 for some brands

not beer I know but another case of the people being shafted

P1Fanatic 23 March 2014 05:17 PM

I didnt realise until about a year ago that the => 5% beers like Stella, Becks, Bud got downgraded. Again due to govt changes taxing the beers with higher alcohol content.p

Its Aldi for me and Becks in 660ml bottles at £1.49 per bottle.
I am just making my way through a few of them now !!

alcazar 23 March 2014 06:23 PM

I buy 1664 in France at 24 bottles for about €12. I like the french stuff, the stuff we get here is bland in comparison.

But hey...prices and sizes?

We've been getting shafted for YEARS now. Now that they can't raise prices anymore because of consumer resistance, they reduce the sizes instead. Most folk don't even realise.

But according to some on here, it's all part of the rich tapestry that is big business making stupidly high profits.......
So THAT'S OK then:mad:

660ml becks for £1.49 ...will get some of that then.I ended up getting 440ml carlsberg Export. £8.00 for 8 cans at Tesco,Hic ...
Yea I hear about Stella being downgraded from 5% to 4.8% or something, but reducing the size of can also stinks.
Anyhow looks like I'm drinking Danish beer tonight, watching the Great Escape....

hodgy0_2 23 March 2014 09:09 PM

Look, just do not drink out of cans

Beer was not meant to be drunk out of cans

Glass is gods work, aluminium cans are the work of the devil

Yeah, that was a crafty one, but in fairness, at least the price per pack has come down. Still not sure they aren't being a bit sneaky though as what was pointed out to me was 'old' packs used to have 20 printed on the side of the box, these 19 packs have it printed on the label only. Wonder if they are hoping people don't notice??

I pour the beer out the can into a glass :lol1: ... No I know what you mean about the alu cans, been told enough times, buy beer in glass bottles not cans...

LSherratt 23 March 2014 10:17 PM

No cider drinkers here then? :lol1: I can't stand lager/beer. Stowford Press is my favourite but I'll usually go for whatever is on offer. Strongbow seems to be on offer quite a lot.

fatscoobfella1 24 March 2014 08:22 AM

Strongbow is terrible though.. If i have more than 2 pints i have to crap it all out..

Henry Westons vintage or Thatchers Katy.. :)

Lidl's own lager is pretty good, think it's called Perlenbacher Pilsner, 500ml bottle, 4.9%, £1 a bottle. Normally have a few of these in the fridge for summer BBQs. Seems much nicer to drink as well, not as gassy as some of the Stella type stuff.

That said most of the year I drink ale, again Lidl or Aldi for good deals and these all come in 500ml bottles of varying strengths. Love a nice cider too on a hot summers day, none of your Magners/Bulmers cr*p mind, should be cloudy with lumps in it :D

Aye, that Llidles stuff is pretty good, re the cider totally agree unfortunately your cack in the morning after usually resembles the same consistency too haha

craigybaby 24 March 2014 10:26 PM

I noticed in tesco last week 4x 440 ml carlsberg 3.75 but 4x500 ml carlsberg was 3.50 lol eh ?? How does that make any sense lol

I'm not a fan of swigging out of tinnies and have always preferred beer out of a bottle/glass.

But tinned beer poured into a glass for me has a metallic taste compared to draught. Why, I dunno.

dpb 24 March 2014 10:55 PM

You need a brassy bird occasionally to help you differentiate the prom queen

Ok, ok. As in a metallic residue kinda taste.

Not quite Chernobyl but you get my idea :p

DYK 25 March 2014 06:37 AM

:lol1::lol1::lol1:

Think its because draught beer is brewed differently to normal lager beer,so you get a more pure taste to how it should be.....
