Well, it pains me to say this, but I think it’s time for my Impreza to move on to a new owner. It’s been an infrequently used second car since I bought it in 2010.

I do quite a few miles for work, so I’ve had a diesel of some description for day-to-day driving the whole time I’ve had the Impreza. The Scooby lives at my parents’ house about 45 minutes from where I live, and as such it doesn’t get used very much. It lives under a car port on a trickle charger most of the time. I’ve finally wised up to the fact that the expense of running two cars is a little excessive, so I’m going to cut my (probably considerable!) losses, and sell her.

The car is a 1999 UK Turbo, in 95H Deep Mica Blue. Over the years I’ve owned it, I’ve spent a fair bit on tweaking it to get it performing just how I want it. All the work has been carried out by my local Subaru specialist at Brooke, near Norwich, who I’m sure would vouch for the car.

Here’s a rundown of the spec, modified and upgraded items:

• Prodrive Performance Pack, which is comprised of a Prodrive exhaust and Prodrive map. This was, I believe, fitted as new from the factory. The Prodrive exhaust remains on the car, I like the look and sound – slightly more understated than some! It is de-catted, I still have the cat sections which will be provided with the car. I had it on a rolling road shortly after I bought it, and have a print-out showing the 251bhp it was making at the time. However, the PPP map has been superseded by the below additions I’ve made…
• KSport 8 piston front calipers with 330mm discs.
• Newage WRX 2 piston rear calipers with larger than standard discs.
• EBC Bluestuff NDX pads front and rear; recommended and supplied by Godspeed.
• IHI VF34 turbocharger.
• Newage STi top mounted intercooler, plus the matching rubber skirt and undertray fitted under the bonnet scoop.
• 3 port boost solenoid.
• Walbro 255lph fuel pump.
• Samco coolant system hoses.
• Samco intercooler pipe.
• Remapped by JGM immediately following the installation of the turbo and ‘cooler. Taken on the rolling road again, where it made 325bhp and 293lb/ft.
• Showa pink shocks and springs from a fellow forum member. I’ve been told by a couple of people that these originated from an S201 special edition, but I’m not 100% sure of that. They do make the ride pretty hard, but the handling is much improved from standard.
• After the shocks and springs were fitted, it had a full laser alignment at Shawn Taylor Racing in Norwich.
• Gearbox short shifter. This was fitted by the previous owner.
• Whiteline 24mm adjustable rear ARB.
• Whiteline droplinks
• Newage WRX black front and rear seats.
• A-pillar mounted oil pressure and oil temperature gauges.
• Steering column mounted boost pressure gauge (looking back through the paperwork, it seems this was fitted when the car was new or nearly new).
• Genuine 17” P1 alloys, shod with Goodyear Eagle tyres which still have a decent amount of tread left.
• JVC CD and USB iDevice compatible head unit.
• Air conditioning.
• Tracker fitted. I’ve not activated it the last couple of years, but it’d be ready to go if you wanted to reactivate it.

I think that covers most of the spec of the car, if I think of anything else I will add it in. I will also be including a couple of other bits in the sale, which hopefully make the package more attractive…
I bought another set of 5 genuine P1 alloys from another forum member, which he’d just had powder coated in black. 4 of these have Pirelli PZero Corsa Asimetrico tyres on, which, although I think are road legal, are basically track tyres. They have been used at a couple of track days, but there’s easily another one left in them. Compared to the road tyres, the grip they provide is awesome. On the 5th extra wheel, there’s a brand new Falken FK452, which I bought so I had a full size spare instead of the space saver.

There’s also a brand new Tegiwa brake stopper kit which I never got round to having fitted, so that’ll be included too.

The car has now done just under 100,000 miles, currently at 99950. It had a full service book when I got it, and I’ve had it serviced every six months or so, irrespective of mileage covered. I don’t think it’s ever covered more than a couple of thousand miles between oil and filter changes since I’ve had it. I had the cambelt done in the last 18 months or so, think it was at about 96k miles, will look back through and check. Because the original service book was nearly full when I got it, I started getting a new one stamped, which I need to dig out as it’s not with the rest of the paperwork.

There are some small dents around the car and some stone chips on the bumper, but nothing too excessive for a 15 year old vehicle. There doesn’t appear to be any of the dreaded bubbling on the arches either. The biggest problem with the bodywork is the bonnet. It looks like it’s been cleaned with something abrasive in the past, and the heat from the engine has made the lacquer peel. I’m due to be having it resprayed when my friend has a spare bit of time to get it in the booth, but I’d happily reduce the asking price by the £250 I’ve been quoted if you just wanted to take it and get it done yourself.

I have done a couple of track days in the car, but generally it’s had an easy life in my possession, and has been well maintained to compensate for the occasional track use. It has always been run on Super Unleaded whilst in my ownership.

I’ve tried to price it as keenly as possible, having checked out a few on Scoobynet and eBay. I realise they aren’t fetching a huge amount these days, but I think for the spec and few extra bits I’ve included, this is a reasonable price.

The car is kept near Eye, in Suffolk, but I could arrange to have it in Norwich where I live if that’s easier. Any inspections and viewings are welcomed and encouraged. As are test drives, however if you want to drive then I would need to see proof of fully comprehensive insurance covering the car, which I’d want to verify with the insurance company over the phone first.

Apologies for the long post, but hopefully that’s covered most of your questions and reassured you that this is a well-loved, sympathetically modified, cared-for car. Obviously if you’ve got any more questions then let me know, and I’ll try my best to answer!

Here’s some pics for the time being. I’m hoping to get a machine polish done next weekend so I’ll try and get some more uploaded then.

Very nice. It's cars like this that make me want to trade in my Newage WRX! Good luck with the sale.

Cheers for the comments guys.

Joe, thanks for the PM, I've just responded.

As per a couple of requests, I'll try and get a few more interior shots up when I'm next with the car (likely to be the weekend now).

alb27 26 March 2014 02:26 PM

Quick update on this; I've sourced another bonnet which is in much better condition, this will be being fitted at the weekend. I'll update again with some more pics then, including some more of the interior as requested.

Thanks mate, it is a nice one and I'll be sad to see it go. I've had quite a lot of interest in it, all of whom have seemed genuine. And someone coming over tomorrow to hopefully take it away, all things being equal.

PM'd you back Joe, apologies for the late reply, had a bit of a busy weekend.

alb27 30 March 2014 11:48 PM

Oh and just a heads up, it's looking likely I'll be selling the car without including the spare set of wheels. So keep your eyes out for a set of 5 P1 alloys appearing in the wheels and tyres section soon ;)

alb27 31 March 2014 06:26 PM

SOLD!

Was sad to see it go.

All in all a good selling experience doing it solely through Scoobynet! No eBay hassle to deal with, no Nigerian offshore workers offering to pay £5K for it immediately via Western Union, no offers of P/X for a non-running Allegro and thirty quid... Just sensible offers from fellow enthusiasts.

Ranj, hope you enjoy being a Subaru owner again, enjoy mate :)
