thanks madey,

are they heavier on fuel than the Subaru impreza sti 2005? not too clued up on the Mazda's and not sure if they are reliable cars and if parts are expensive?

I found the mps better on fuel than the blob (which I have now) certainly very reliable. The mazda mps club is the best place for imformation.

We had a Mk1 MPS before the Subaru.

In black it was one of the best sleeper cars i have seen. Loved upsetting Golf GTI drivers particularly!

Can't comment on the Mk2 i'm afraid, but lets just say that when you booted the mk1 i would keep a pretty tight grip on the wheel especially if tyres are worn or there is particular camber on the road.

mps are good cars a very underated hot hatch and one of the fastest the standard engin is good for well over 300bhp too and torque steer not so much a prob with these as fitted with a decent lsd stock it is fwd tho just book a test drive and make your own opinion

I've said it before but a chap at my work has a 4wd coversion MPS running 400BHP on what is described as a "poor" map, looking for 700BHP in the end :norty:.
I'm still waiting for a go in it.

The wife has a 10 plate 3MPS which I drive quite regularly. It's a nice car but the torque limiting in 1st and 2nd really shows up. It actually feels quite ordinary in those gears. It pulls well from just over 2k and the engine is very flexible (needs to be on occasions with the wife driving!) Ride is firm but acceptable (After the BC's on the STi I couldn't really complain!) Steering is 'springy' and it'll understeer if pushed. There are plenty of gadgets and it's quite well appointed BUT for a so called 'performance' car, the instrumentation is pathetic! There's a little bar type boost gauge and that's it - there's not even a temperature gauge, just a useless blue icon on the speedo which goes out when the engine warms up, and I mean 'warm' certainly not full working temp.
Having said all that, it's quite good to own and having owned it for just over a year, we haven't seen another one on the road!
To be honest, I would think the later generation Focus ST is a better car but we're not disappointed.

what colour do you think, Red or White?

LMC 21 March 2014 09:49 AM

Cant go wrong with either imo by far the best colours on the mk1 mps.

If i was going for a mk2 it would be in that gunmetal grey colour though.
