What size speakers for Hawk wagon?
 

firstly apologies.. I am sure this question has been asked a million times but I cannot find any definitive answer.

I have a rattle in the drivers door and its driving me nuts. I decided if i am going to take the door card off to investigate, I may as well do something about the terrible standard speakers.

I am not interested in spending a fortune on speakers so was tempted with these and for the hell of it will match the Pioneer headunit I fitted a few months back.

Before I ordered I wanted to know for sure if this was correct size and if it needed the adapters etc.
I will do the rears eventually but not just yet. So any info on what to go for would also be useful.

My hawk wagon iv got vibe slick 6 in the front doors and vibe slick 5 in the back doors. Just need to do a bit of DIY with mdf to make some spacers then your all good you'd have to do it with any speaker. Unless you use the corsa spacers that some boys use in the front doors
good quality speakers for the money!

Thanks for the reply but I do not have any tools to cut mdf. By the time I factor in tools, and the MDF itself I may as will just buy the spacers for £10 lol.

Done a quick search and found the SAK-3001's are the 16.5cm versions.. Now that is a worthwhile upgrade.. Think I will order a set of them and some 16.5cm speakers.

I bought A set of auto leads speaker spacers wasn't going to fit with the speakers so that's why I went with mdf. But like i said some boys use corsa spacers but I think I saw before that you can buy mdf spacers off eBay.
Just remember to get wire speaker adapters if you want to keep original wiring as it's a block terminal in behind or make them yourself

Fitted speakers this weekend. Took most of the day Saturday and tidied up a little on Sunday.
Front was Vibe Slick 6 coaxial speakers and Vibe slick 5 coaxial in rear. Fronts went in ok with the SAK-3001 spacers. I was not keen to drill holes so used cable ties to hold the top screw in place. This worked well and I was happy with the result.
I made my own wiring adapters out of the supplied speaker leads and a few spade connectors.

Rears I hit upon the idea to use the old speaker as an adapter plate. I pulled the old speaker cone apart and used a dremel to cut around the edge releasing the magnet and wiring etc. from the front. The slick 5's slot straight in nice and snug. :)

I wanted to do a bit of sound deadening but dynamat is expensive. Back when I was young and we were fitting loud systems to ford escorts and the like lol we used Flashing tape. Got a 225mm x 10m roll from B&Q for £23. This did all 4 doors with some left to spare. This has reduced road noise and made sure nothing will rattle.

The speakers them selves are with out doubt better than stock (wouldn't be hard) but not amazing. sound is much more crisp and clear but does lack a little depth in bass.
On the whole very happy but if i were to do it again I would have got the component slick 6's and not the coaxial ones.. I never noticed there was a tweeter in the door lol.. that would have been better to upgrade that. Oh well live and learn.
