Other insurers than LV?
Hey all,
Anyone found another insurer that's like LV on policies? I like there "any mods okay" rule but this year they've bumped up the quote by £110, not funny in current climate!:freak3: |
try HIC or SKY mate, i am 25 and on a 370bhp hawkeye STI i got my insurance with them for under a grand. DEFINATELY ring HIC for a quote
|
I use scuba mate. Never thought they would insure mods but they did. 27 yr old 6 yr ncd
|
Ignore that last post. Predictive texts a pain in arse! Anyway I use aviva me and my missus(27 and 28) on a modified Jdm, 6 yrs ncd, no points, fully comp for £320

Yea I know mate. I couldn't believe it either. They never even asked for cat1 or tracker which was surprising. Mind you I'm up in Inverness so low crime area.

Yea I don't understand how these companies price there insurance. My missus has had my old starlet gt for the last 4 years, every year as she gets more ncd, the price still go's up! She's currently paying more than me to insure her motor! Unreal. Anyway hers is due for renewal end of January, she tried aviva, and she's looking at halving her premium!
|
Ins. co.s seem to make the rules up as they go along.... :(
|
I've just added the Mrs to the policy, and i've lost my garage now, so it's parked out on the road day and night.
Premium down by £50 on last years. :wonder: |
Yea thats another weird one. My quote before I added my missus on it was £480, put her on it and it dropped £160!:cuckoo:
|
See what I mean... The insurers' logic is all over the shop.
|
Try Keith Michaels, A Plan, Greenlight or Sky.
They (we) use several companies, and specialise in modified cars. |
Do they take endless list of mods like LV though?
|
Yes, depending on the insurer.

Mods seem to be disproportionate to the quotes anyway. For eg. I have a Sport with a few WRX mods, e.g. WRX wheels and brakes with back box and this makes it more to insure than if I had a bloomin WRX in the first place?!?
I should try asking them to just call it a WRX give me a quote and then say "oh I dont have a turbo, has 500cc less and doesnt go nearly as fast, so how much less would I pay?" |
Moley when would it be best to give you a ring for a quote with it being new years and all?

I'm back in on the 4th of Jan, so anytime after that really.
|

Will give you a call then. Is it best to speak to you directly as its a Subaru? You have said that you have another worker now so we need to ask for you specifically, I didnt know if theres a reason for that or not. |
Another:thumb: for Gary and Keith Michaels.
|
Just spoke to LV, they dropped price by 40 notes but still too expensive. Did online with Aviva and they'll only do online quote if 4 mods or less, I've got pages of mods. Will try some of the others listed later cheers all.
|
Just spoke to sky, they've done a deal with specialist for 20 quid more than LV's new quote. They did say LV dont mind modifications but wont pay out your expected value of car (with mods) should car be written off :freak3:
That sound right to you? Mods like took 5 mins on the phone and I did miss a few items now I think about it but mainly minor ones. |
thing is though you cant possibly know all mods anyway for fuk sake !! im the 4th owner of my 02wrx if each owner does mods then ur not gonna know everything thats been done :freak3: but if u have a wollop and it gets inspected ur done for .................loophole !! not fare at all :cuckoo: especially if ur not clued up about engines? which alot of people arnt !!
and what aboub old modded cars like rs turbos etc had god knows how many owners and modification since the 80s !! and ur supposed to declare ALL mods ? thing is where do u draw the line in terms of mods ? uprated engine mounts ? poly bushes on ur suspension ? why should they hike up costs ??? |
Not in my case, had car from new and gone through various power levels, just cant remember absolutely all mods in one go....know what you mean though.
Has anyone got first hand knowledge of what LV are like with true value of modified motors if trashed? |
initialD, that is a very interesting question. It doesnt really have any effect on me as Im the second owner and bought from Subaru almost new and know it was standard but if those in the insurance business who Im sure would have come across this could shed some light on this it would be interesting to know.
The flip side is how does the insurance company know that you didnt just mod it and claim it was done by the previous owner? |
Anything that isn't standard fitment needs to be declared.
''I didn't know what's fitted'' isn't an excuse. You can imagine the conversation now..... ''sorry, i didn't realise the 2.35 engine, GT35 turbo, AP brakes and coilovers etc weren't standard'' Buying a car that you don't know what's been done to it isn't a great idea anyway.... ignoring the insurance issue. |
Im sure it must have happened before thought when someone has bought a car with nothing more than uprated bushes or roll bar at the most and the insurance companies say "sorry its moded". How on earth were you meant to know?
