Newage coping with md321t.

Hi there i've got an 05 sti impreza and wanted to know if i can get away with running a md321t on basically a standard car. I've got a 3 inch fully decatted exhaust but wondered what else i will have to upgrade? I wanted to see if it would run without forging the engine. Also using standard top mount and standard injectors? Or are the injectors too small for this? Obviously it would be remapped and upgaraded clutch but will everything work? Is it pushing the standard engine too far, or is there anything else that you have to upgrade? Many thanks.

hi would need uprated fuel pump, bigger injectors, fuel pressure regulator dont need uprated clutch or forged internals, standard intercooler is more than capable of doing its job should see 400bhp 1.6 bar boost hope this helps

scoobyDAZZA 23 October 2008 08:44 PM

i know of an STi8 running o.e box and untouched block running iro 440 bhp
obviously bigger injectors and other bits as mentioned above. no problems to date and that's with many drag launches.

Shaun 23 October 2008 08:48 PM

The box or diff's is not the problem on a Newage (even at levels far greater than this)...... the engine however, will have it's limits way before the tranny goes pop. :)

I would have a thought a T on a standard STI engine would be pushing it a bit in the reliability stakes:wonder: . Depends how conservative the mapper is with it I guess.... if he rings the neck out of the turbo it might be touch and go.

I ran a 321H on a standard 02 JDM STI block at about 1.6 bar for a year or so without any issues, but I was always thinking this was borderline. A T is bigger again.

allza 23 October 2008 09:38 PM

Ok thanks guys. Do you think 450 is achievable with this turbo running the top mount?

MartynJ 23 October 2008 09:56 PM

450 is unlikely on the stock topmount, 400 would be a more likely figure and achievable @ a moderate 1.4bar.
Turbo is perfectly capable but the rest of it may object to the boost reqd to make 450, circa 1.8 bar...

know of a few sti's running mid to late 400s without internal changes to the engine.. supporting mods required obviously.. fmic ideally beyond 400 as Martyn says.

Ok thanks looks like a front mount will be added to the list too. Will uprated headers be needed for mid 400's too?

are these cars running v-power only simon?

Jolly Green Monster 24 October 2008 12:11 AM

yes

Shaun 24 October 2008 11:51 AM

IMO, if you are running mid to late 400's on a standard engine (that actually goes as the figures suggest)..... hope for the best, but expect the worst over time.

I know JD drives like a woman but I didn't realise that he dressed up too :wonder:

:p :thumb:

over 400 on the std block is on borrowed time i reckon. It's good to find out how much a std block will actually take though when well mapped and all working well.

scoobyDAZZA 24 October 2008 09:11 PM

don't say that FFS , i'm going round his gaff tomorrow

sorry to be picky but the actual block will be fine.. pistons and rods are the weaker point.. but being 2litre and having to obviously add later spool with a larger turbo the peak torque is lower by comparison to the power... and the torque is the main killer to the rods.. imho.. as long as mapping is safe the pistons seem fine at that level.. how long.. who knows but there seem to be enough of them out there running around.

simon,
I think you will find it also has something to do with the revs as well that bust the rods.

Question is, as a tuner would you stipulate the standard engine would be ok at over 420? ;)

MartynJ 25 October 2008 08:24 AM

We prefer to give the customer the choice of how far to push it, obviously stating that IF or WHEN it goes pop they were warned of that possibility.
So far so good, all 3 are holding together well and although JD has killed his clutch, there have been no mechanical issues on any of them.

jd5217 25 October 2008 08:35 AM

you like the stroking thing?

MartynJ 25 October 2008 08:38 AM

Love it m8, nearly there now, also have my T38 Turbo Technics STG3 hybrid.
Can't wait !

jd5217 25 October 2008 08:41 AM

i will be interested in the results

oh yes many factors but the rods seem to take over 420 without issue

the more you push it the more you risk it.... obviously...

Wow so with one of these turbos i can see 400bhp ish on my prodrive 05 sti? that sounds fun, what sort of torque figures?

Im guessing my fuel pumps enough, so what else would i need? what size injectors?

wrx9181 25 October 2008 05:09 PM

though sti 8 plus had forged internals?
