H-h-h-how MUCH?????
As above. I've got a classic that the clutch has started to slip on. Its not burning yet but is slipping when it comes on boost, so thought i'd better sort it before it does further damage. Any reccomendations would be gratefully appreciated and if you have had it done and got a price that would be better. I've had a quote of £695 + VAT:eek:, any thoughts?
Thanks in advance Andy |
Sounds about right, however get yourself to API Welcome to the API website for a uprated job for around the same price as a main dealers. No judder :D
|
Yup. There's not a great difference in the price range between fitting a standard or uprated item. The main cost element is labour as it's an "engine out" job....
|
Dont forget the flywheel, that may need replacing or skimming as well.
|
Engine out job??
Is that right?? I was going to say - Do It Yourself and save £650 or so .... |
Pretty sure scooby clutch replacement isn't an engine out job!
|
I'm no mechanic - I let the experts do that - but I always thought it was an engine-out, or at least a gearbox-out(?) job... I've had a couple of new clutches in a couple of Scoobs & thought that was the case....
|
Scoobyclinic had to pull my new age gearbox off for a bearing and put a new clutch in at the same time. They didn't move the engine.

Engine out -Not Required
|
engine does not need to come out

check out the group buy

I've asked my mate to do it as he owns a garage. I hadn't asked him previously as he specialises in Vauxhalls and thought he would tell me to Fluff off. He's previously been an engine builder for a rally team and a workshop manager/technician for Bentley so I'm guessing it won't be too much hassle. However scoobyclinic will do it for £400 fitted incase there is anyone in a similar situation. Link below

I was going to say, the price you have been quoted is very steep.
My local garage quoted me a lot less, circa £300. I think that was a preferential rate, so that £400 from scoobyclinic does not sound unreasonable. If you are based in the North East try calling John Pye Motors, they do good work. |
Mine cost about £415 all in. Bought the clutch and had a local garage fit it for £200 quid.
Bought an uprated Exedy for £215 I think it was, hence the £415. |

No its not an organic, just the standard 230mm exedy fitted to P1s/STis etc.
Uprated for me over my standard UK Turbo clutch, as I was in the process of upping the power from 215 to 270ish. Bought from this chap on ebay: eBay.co.uk: Subaru Exedy Clutch Kit 230mm Impreza STi WRX Upgrade (item 230085314350 end time 08-Feb-07 20:00:00 GMT) |
I had the flywheel and clutch replaced on my MY00 Classic about 3 years ago (to cure clutch judder) at a Subaru dealer and the invoice for the warranty claim was for £555 incl VAT for parts only

Check out the group buy i'm currently running on Exedy Organic clutchs and flywheels:
https://www.scoobynet.com/group-buys...group-buy.html Fitting should be between £200-£300. |
I didn't think it was an Engine out job and if fitting is £200 then it should be well within a DIY ability I should have thought?
I have seen the Clutch Kit for £135 'ish ...... what is this organic clutch thing? Does it mean it has been made without artificial pesticides? And I keep seeing 'Paddle Clutch' - whats that? |

I must add that most of them have had their heads sticking out of cardboard boxes on the street - or staggering around pissed as farts. Those that I have caught on an 'off-day' ie. SOBER have been very pleasant indeed :D I think the Irish are great :thumb: |

I was quoted £250 to fit + the clutch kit (i'd get that myself) by a local independant clutch specialist. (Not Mr Clutch!)
The owner had an old legacy turbo! :thumb: |
