The remit from Chris was to produce a comfortable 400-410bhp as it will be his daily driver, track day toy and would be running the standard top mount etc. However the turbo is more than capable of supporting 420bhp+ :)

Agreed .. it was .. and it seems to fit the bill beautifully .. thanks Iain.

ps Fuel economy seems a little better too !!

LitchfieldImports 04 February 2010 12:50 PM

Immy, you'll want our LM400 turbo if spool up is critical as this responds like standard (or better on some applications) but will produce 400bhp. It easily out performs our old Hybrid versions :) One of these reasons we started this long development project was our experience with the old Hybrid versions.

Regards

Iain

Kayen 04 February 2010 01:03 PM

What did your old Hybrid Turbo consist of? Was it just a Garrett 2871 Compressor Wheel put in the VF36 or something different?

Thanks for the info much appreciated T20 :)

Nice one for the info Ian will be intouch very soon for mine and will be reccomending these to all my customers!! :thumb:
Might also try a 450 version so they can drive both and pick for themselfs as long as you look after me on price :D

Just to back-up what Iain has said about Miltek.... mine has been on and off more times than I can mention and I have not had a problem with weld quality. Sh!t happens though I suspect.

The only problem I had with my Miltek, was that my engine blew the resonator wadding out of the downpipe baffle. Too much ooomph! :D

T20Driver 04 February 2010 02:24 PM

Well .. been for a little bit of a play ... YUM YUM !!

Apart from nearly being caught out by two marked and one unmarked car it goes very, very nicely through the gears - far stronger than before, but not madly ballistic, so .... a great day to day vehicle with a little bit extra .. and I am sure it will make a wonderful track toy too.

Get it in 3rd or 4th at 5k and there is no hesitation and it just goes very strongly and quickly all the way to 7.5k or so.

Quite a distinctive turbo whistle now too :D

So .. all in all .. very pleased :notworthy

LitchfieldImports 04 February 2010 02:54 PM

Good stuff Chris :) When you get used to it I'm more than happy to give it a tweak if you want more power.... ;)

Turbo Dynamics have just called to say Tim's LM480 is fine :) so it must be something else... We'll get it back tomorrow and as soon the Milltek DP comes back (hopefully Monday) we'll put new exhaust gaskets on and give it a try.

As Simon said, it might be that the mapping was compromised by the exhaust blow....

LitchfieldImports 04 February 2010 02:57 PM

Kayen, the old Hybrid turbo would involve TD machining our the VF36/7 exhaust housing, welding in a new plate and installing the Garrett cores. They worked well upto a point and were the only option at the time. However they are limited by the standard exhaust housing design and material.

In terms of your old set up how much quicker is it Can you tell the difference straight away or does it take a while?

Immy

scatty 04 February 2010 07:20 PM

great news mr t20..sounds like you are well pleased....

my mrs on the other hand, wont take this news well at all.....just awaiting results on the 450 version, then i will be picking up the phone...but must admit, the results from the 420 are awsum.......

are both versions in stock, so to speak or is there an order and wait list...

Kayen 04 February 2010 08:01 PM

Why does the currency exchange rate have to be so crappy for us Americans :( I really want one of these turbo's, I just need to keep saving I suppose haha. Atleast I will be able to look over everyone's dyno sheets and compare setups and make the right choice for my setup...

You can definitely tell the difference straight away ... depending on your existing power levels of course (mine was approx 335hp/320lbs I think) ... and you can certainly tell its quicker when 'pushing on'

It is noisier though ... you can always hear the turbo spinning ... I love it .. but some may not ... mind you I have a snorkleotomy so that might explain that a bit ?

T20Driver 04 February 2010 11:12 PM

What I should add is that it needs to warm up to come on song .... which is fine by me as I like to let the oil come up to temp before I boot it ...

I am also pretty sure Iain said he's set the map up to take a feed from the water temp and so if it gets too hot the map restricts the performance to protect the turbo. But I could have missunderstaood how that works, or what happens as I am a bit of a luddite on cars.

juggers 05 February 2010 12:25 AM

Ok cool think that is all the info i need just need to decide on if it's going on a S204 or an RA-R.

Immy,

I am completely envious of that statement...:notworthy

That just isn't right to say in the same sentence haha. I wish I had access to sweet cars like that. Alteast I was able to get a hold of a JDM MY05 Spec C Engine.

Your joking aren't you?! :D Sterling has took a proper beating over the past 24 months. The exchange rate you get now is a lot more favourable than what you would of got in 2007...... it was less than a £1 to $2 then! :D

I just hate you :lol1: :lol1: LOL.

I'd keep the S204 std

Or perhaps Iain might give you a discount for two turbo's ;)

I think you really need to talk to Iain, Immy .. (as I would recommend with anyone considering buying one of his turbos) ... as those cars are a different set up to mine ... and hence I suspect would have different factors for consideration

The S204 is the perfect road car and with that extra power would just hit the nail on the head for me, dont think you could get any better. However i do understand where your coming from?

I was gagging to do it to the RA-R i had (the yellow one) but it bloody sold and there wan't enough feedback on the turbo at the time.

Yeh will give him a ring ,but there are two major factors in difference which is the bigger inlet hose and the blue printed engine. So i assume it only means more power :D

lol! I read that and thought the same. It's still over 20% cheaper now for the USA

It might not be as bad, but I wouldn't call it good when I have to spend $1.59 USD for 1 GBP.

This turbo ends up costing us approx. $2,400 USD.

kennyc 05 February 2010 01:03 PM

what are the prices of these turbos?

Immy, the S204/RA-R "blue printed" engine and STI inlet hose don't make any real difference.

Shaun 05 February 2010 01:44 PM

Immy,
The Blue Printed engine just means it "should" last a bit longer! ;)

I would of thought the biger inlet hose made a difference you used to have it as part fo the hybrid package to.
