Hi Boosted , Have you got around to putting the heads on yet ?
I'm searching the net for Head Gaskets 0.6mm MLS ones myself right now , best price I've found albeit in USA is $72 from flatirontuning , or UK 109 stg from Advanced auto parts or + bolts for 170 stg. So Im thinking of going here , any other suggestions ? Linksfahrer Ps Great idea heads in the Dishwasher  But I will be giving it another rinse afterwards before my teapot /cup go back in. :thumb: Next weekend perhaps! I've been working on a new rear driveshaft design, using subaru inner cv joints modified to bolt onto the audi diff. Yeah you need to put dishwasher on for a rinse after lol! Not sure on my HG thickness, have to check on that one. |

There are a number of good options, RCM, Cosworth and Cometic. As Andaru says give Alyn at AS Performance a ring he will have most if not all in stock.

Just noticed you are in Germany drop him an email at info@asperformance.com

Ok thanks Arch / Andaru, I have sent a wish list to Alyn , and I will get back here , with his reply for Boosted's convienience ( as this is his thread :notworthy) if the prices are good , it might save him some time and money as we are both on a tight budget on our builds. |
Hi do you plan to run megasquirt using the original Subaru ecu case and engine harness so its plug and play?

Megasquirt ecu will live in it's own case, I will leave the subaru ecu wired into a few things, it can look after the cooling fans, rev counter output, possibly fuel pump. The megasquirt just needs to control the engine, nothing else. So injectors, coil packs (fuel and timing) boost control too. Megasquirt also be looking at engine rpm, coolant temp, air temp, throttle position and manifold pressure, as well as my wideband gauge. Easy to wire up, far easier than making it fit into a subaru ecu case, for no gains. No point in over complicating the situation by removing the factory ecu. |
I already have my head gaskets guys. New ones this time

Hi which version of megasquirt have you gone for.
|
I like the idea of megasquirt and ive built a ms1 unit myself from scratch,I did find it quiet hard to build as ive never built anything like that before. It had a built in map sensor on coil drivers so I didn't need an edis 4.I built it to run on my mk2 mondeo turbo I had years ago but I never got round to tuning the ms and sold it on.I would like the idea of having another and getting a base map on and tuning it
|
I see, very easy to destroy an engine if your not careful!
But a perfectly good standalone ecu, with lots of tunabilty and functions. Not something I would recommend you do to your car if it's the first thing you have ever tuned, at least not without guidance from someone that's done it before. |
It's never as easy as plugging an ecu in and driving the car to work the next morning. Lots of initial tuning to do before you do that. I've got it down to an hour or two now for a good off boost map.
|
I think I might do some more research into tuning them before I get one.:)
|
So the rear driveshaft saga continues. Things I've discovered:
Audi/vag CV joints don't have as much plunge/ angular movement as impreza ones. The rear diff has been raise 30mm to it's limit almost against the subframe. The diff moves down at the rear under hard acceleration. None of my four broken shafts are down to power/torque they have all broken due to the CV joint being maxed out on it's allowable angle during squat on a launch. So.... Diff has been raised as far as it can go, now driveshaft centreline at diff is 10mm lower than factory- fa. I've ordered polly bushes to hold the diff still under acceleration. I've made some new driveshafts from the strongest steel available to me. Also have a set of std sti springs to go on, will raise the ride hieght and further straighten the shafts. And most importantly of all I have made modified subaru inner CV joints that will bolt onto the audi diff. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2eyh0qoo.jpg |
Hats off to you for not setting it on fire and walking away lol! Hopefully you've got it sorted now :)
|
The whole point of the audi conversion was to use the impreza 4.111 diff as that matches the audi 4.111 diff ratio, but you can't do that!
So it's been a bit of a ball ache using the audi diff, but I'm getting there now! Building the shafts up at work today, pics to follow. I'll pop them on tomorrow morning, then put the heads on my engine and finish building that in the afternoon, only heads, cam belt and sump to do so not my more work in it. |
Nice work there mate :) |
Can you not solid mount the diff?

This is my everyday car, I do 200 miles a week in it. I don't want it added noise and harshness that a solid diff would bring, also not wanting to stress and crack the rear subframe. Plus I think a proper engineered solution is always better, if I can get it to drive, sound and feel like an oem conversion that's great. In reality the diff can't move far, I just want it to move much less, but still retain some noise/vibration suppression. |

Nice progress :)

Engines nearly built. Just cam belt and covers it put on, sump and cam covers and she's done.
Bought some brand new injectors as I'm not happy with my decapped ones, plus 820cc is a bit big for good low rpm tunabilty. Didn't fancy second hand 550's as I think they might be a bit marginal with the methanol and also you don't really know the history with second hand injectors. So I bought some siemens deka's 630cc/min shorties. I will machine some Adaptors for the rail side, plenty of room for that. |

If you're intent on running Megasquirt (Still a mistake if you ask me as there's nothing you can't do on the OEM ecu inc running it mafless) why don't you make life easy. As I've said before I admire good engineering and love some of the stuff you've done, but you're going so left field with THE most important bit I wonder if it's all worth it. |
Nowt wrong with MS, wouldn't buy that ecu though, very dear!
Plus I have one sitting here! |
